Nice project, I'm just wondering though, I don't see the whole purpose of it?
Instead of downloading 4GB size image and flash my SD card I could instead just install java 1.8 manually and download the latest spigot? Or are there some kind of optimization that I can't do myself in the image?

Or is the image more specific for people who are not experienced in setting it up themselves?

I would expect it would be the same as with a Model B+ , ethernet and USB probably won't work out of the box....

Good day Gentlemen!
Do you think you could implement Spigot 1.8?
You would have to add a feature for compiling new versions, but that should not be a problem for you!

Why not just build Spigot on a normal image?

http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2015/02/r ... erver.html
http://www.spigotmc.org/wiki/buildtools/

This is what i did and it works well. :)

(You can't package the Spigot server anymore, they can redistribute it either directly for some legal reasons so you have to build it.)

Fred,

You certainly could install Java and spigot yourself, But yes there was some other minor optimization done as well to the image - namely caching the map and overclocking the Pi. If you follow the link to my blog, there is detailed build instructions if you are curious.

Any word on the kind of performance the pi 2 has as a Minecraft server?if it's only like 40 percent more powerful it may not be worth it. 6 times more powerful though and we are really talking

Not yet - I should find out soon though, mine should arrive in a few days. Once I build the new image, I'll post back.

This is my understanding of the current issue as well - I may be able to work around and optimize the image and world settings using my jar and then just add the extra step of having the user run the buildtools to build the .jar file... I'm not entirely sure yet though, I will have to play around with it some more.

I'll post back when I have more information.

**Brief Explanation of DMCA Issues Here

Update: 3/23/15
I think I may have found a legal loophole that will allow me to finally share v1.8 of the Spigot MineCraft server image. This is going to require some extra scripting and a building the image from scratch....So I have a plan of attack, Now I just need to find the time to rebuild the image!

Will I be able to use the 3.0 build on my model b board? Surely the smaller amount of usb ports couldnt be too much an issue right?

Thank you by the way for the reply! I love your work with these easy to use Minecraft images

Hey bud!

Loving the idea so far. Having some difficulty getting some things working, but I'm ironing them out OK.

I have a question: How do I install plugins without wget?

Cheers

Jordan

P.S. thanks for this genius creation ;)

http://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-minecraft-server/ gets you a 1.8.8 server.

The latest version is 1.8 already. It should auto update to the latest release.

If you are looking to upgrade and old image/version I'm afraid you will have to do so manually.

Am using MinecraftPi 2.2. It seems to let 1.7.10 players connect, but I'm not quite sure how to update it, unless MinecraftPi 2.2 Is only 1.7.10.

Also, do you know how to install 'other' plugins? Without wget?

Cheers ;)

Should be noted that v1.8 of the spigot.jar is available to download directly (without compiling!)

Anyone that is interested in having the latest+greatest can now visit: https://getspigot.org/ and follow my build instructions to build your own MineCraft Server!
**Or you can probably just replace the .jar file :)
