4 PlayerMultiab- Support for SNES and NES

Sun Feb 09, 2014 7:44 pm

Hi all,
I’ve successfully installed my Emulationstation with Retropie and can play almost all roms. I’ve to thank so many guide authors, I can’t mention them all ;)

However I still have a problem and couldn’t find any help in these guides. My Problem is, that 2 of my 4 USB-Controller stop working while playing SNES/NES-Roms. Only Player 1 and 2 can act, but they fully work for 4Player-MAME-games like “TMNT – Turtles in Time” (Arcade-Version).

The problem is most likely, that the SNES and NES use the multitab to support 4 controllers and thus the emulator has to manage that seperately. I can’t find any options in the RGUI to solve my problem. Can someone help me there ?

I only found topics, which arent 100% solved. For example:

Welcome to the Forum! I would suggest the Emulator you are using via RetroPie is not built to simulate MultiTap use, I do know PiSNES is 2 Pads ONLY, although the RetroArch PocketSNES Core may do. As for the NES was a MultiTap even available for the System? I'm personally not aware of any NES Emulator that has configuration for 4 Players and the Fceu documentation (most NES Emulators are based on its code) doesn't mention MultiTap support. Remember Emulators simulate the original Hardware, TMNT works 4 Player because the Arcade Cab did (as would Gauntlet, The Simpsons etc.). Check out the RetroPie Forum, it may be of assistance

Thanks for your reply welshy,
After several hours of research I still don't know, if pocketSNES supports multitab. However, pocketSNES was designed for smartphones. Thus multiplayer is likely not supported.
I will try another SNES-Emu like SNES9x.

And yes, NES hab a multitab for 4 players. Nintendo World Cup was one of my childhood-games and that's for 4 player.
