Icade Cabinet screen

Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:14 pm

Hi all,

I'm working on modifying an old icade cabinet into a mame arcade. I spotted a good tutorial on the internet doing so.

I've got most of it sorted, but I just need to know what options I have connecting up an LCD screen? I think I can successfully fit a 10-12 inch LCD/HDMI screen in there, but how do I connect it to the raspberry PI? I can only see an HDMI port on the RPI, and I was looking at things like laptop screens. Would I be able to use something like this to connect to the RPI via a converter/adapter of some sort -

Hope you guys can help, i'm a bit of a newcomer with this sort of thing, I work in the IT industry but this kind of thing is quite new to me.

I think Adafruit has HDMI screen in the 10" range.

That's quite an expensive option though, 150 dollars plus shipping to the UK.

Was hoping I could just adapt an LCD screen from a laptop or something.

Why not check out seeed studios,
they have a nice $90 10.1" HDMI Monitor

otherwise, go find a <12" 'portable dvd player' for cheap and hack it up a bit - give it a composite input from the pi an dyou're good to go!

trying both here, will let ya know how i get on

I'm hoping you got it done by now, would honestly like to know how you got on if so (and if you see this reply), I'm considering grabbing a cheap icade and putting an 11.6" laptop screen in it with a converter board to hook up to a pi3. Just not sure how much space there is to play with in terms of screen sizes.

cheers
