Boot into Emulationstation

Mon Oct 14, 2013 4:40 pm

Hi I just started a project in which I will build a portable RetroPie machine but there is one thing I can't figure out, how do I boot strait into Emulationstation? I want to do this because I don't want to have a keyboard each time I start it up.

There is a file "/etc/profile" You will need sudo permission to edit. At the end of that file you can include the line.

Code: Select all

[ -n "${SSH_CONNECTION}" ] || emulationstation
This is the method used by the petrockblog retropie script.

Thank you, I think, because I don't know how to get sudo permission. I thought it was by writing "sudo -s" but when I tried to edit it i got "Permission denied". So how do I get sudo permission?

The pi user should already have them, open up a terminal type

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/profile
and thats it. I might not have been very clear my bad.

dont you just open the setup for retropie then go to the setup/settings and set it to start on boot?

How do you do that? Because when I did like arimal said I still had to log in with pi and my password.

The directions I gave will start emulation station on login, to bypass the login see here.

If you'd like to take the headache out of setting up a RetroPie take a look Petrock's excellent installation script if you have not already.

cd RetroPie-Setup
chmod +x retropie_setup.sh
sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

that should start the setup, then it should be the 3rd option down under the 2 options for installing retropie. then i think its one of the first options but it will say somethingl ike start emulationstation on boot
