STICKY: GAMES LIST: Games That Work On The Pi

Sun Aug 04, 2013 4:07 pm

Image

Here is a list of games that work on the Raspberry Pi, for everyone to read.. NOW IN FANTASTIC COLOUR!
:D
/|\
/\

(Please Note: pistore games will now have to be outsourced from somewhere in order for them to be played. If you know where any can be found, please leave a reply. Thanks!)

PREFIXES:
If the game has a *apt-get* after it, that means that it can be installed using "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install GAMENAME", replacing GAMENAME with the name of the game. The name can be found with an 'apt-cache search GAMENAME' search, using keywords, in case the package's name differs slightly from the game's name. For example, for 'Flight of the Amazon Queen', you could try 'apt-cache search flight of the amazon queen', although some games may require something a bit more less wordy :-). Or use a search engine like DuckDuckGo (I'm not advertising, it's just my preference :D. Plus, it looks pretty awesome with the terminal theme)

If the game has *pistore*after it, it could at one time be downloaded/played through the PiStore, but the Pistore is now gone!.

If the game has *other* after it, a suitable link will be provided in brackets)

If the game has *PAY* after it, it means that you have to pay to buy it. If available, a price will follow in brackets.

This list needs to be CONSTANTLY UPDATED! Post more stuff, guys! I cannot keep track of everything that goes on around here! :D

Quake 3 - The game openarena was based off of. Just shoot up everything and you'll win the game. A lot of fps games like call of duty even use this game's engine!

This thread is a good idea - but I think it would be even better, if we would include one-sentence description about the mentioned games.

My list:
OpenTTD - simulator based upon Transport Tycoon Deluxe - *apt-get*
Simutrans - transport simulator - only runs OK at a low resolution - *apt-get*
PyDance - rhythm game (like Stepmania) - no package, unfortunately, but you can get it here: https://icculus.org/pyddr/download.php#source
Angry Drunken Dwarves - multiplayer arcade puzzle game - *apt-get*
(not exactly a game) ScummVM - virtual machine for a lot of old 2D adventure games - *apt-get*

I forgot to mention that unfortunately you can't get pydance from the repositories.
You can download it from here: https://icculus.org/pyddr/download.php#source

(Shouldn't be hard to install - just follow the README.)

Correct to install anything (games/dependencies etc.) from the Repo's it is -

e.g. sudo (If not logged in as root) apt-get install stella

As far as Mednafen is concerned it does indeed emulate the Wonderswan (color) and it is possible to change joystick/keyboard settings.
Here's a Link to the Manual - http://mednafen.sourceforge.net/documen ... index.html

Great thread. I found it while searching for help on getting frozen-bubble to work.
With all the titles listed here I think I will put frozen-bubble on the back burner and try something new.
The Pi doesn't look like a typical modern gaming machine but interesting games can be low power. Game on.

I guess you could find a gameboy or nes/snes emulator, and run one of the pokemon roms!
