Angry Birds Pi Edition
I was sitting around on my Pi today, thinking about all of the great stuff for it; Minecraft Pi Edition, PiStore... Then it came to me. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get Angry Birds on the Pi? If Rovio made a version for the pi, that would be so cool!
I'm happy to help.

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
I think it's highly unlikely Rovio would release a Pi version of Angry Birds since they haven't even released any for the Linux x86 platform.
Of course if Android Pi project ever gets off the ground (still waiting for them all important drivers from Broadcom) then this maybe a possibility.
Tweet if you must but I'm afraid it's going to fall on deaf ears.

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
The Android version is a possibility and so is the Chrome/Chromium HTML5 version. Both will require some patience however as we're waiting on having a GPU accelerated desktop.

but isn't there at least ONE arm processor in a phone/ipod.

dunno. all i'm sying is that it would not take THAT much work. it wouldn't need to have that many levels, either!

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
Yeah, got a N900 with Maemo/Debian Linux here, with ARM-cpu - and Angry Birds run fine.

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
Ok, I look forward to seeing your port when you have finished rewriting all that for the Pi's ARMv6 instead for the ARMv8 that the N900 usesmrpi64 wrote:told you so!

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
Maemo may well be based on Debian Linux but it's a hacked up distro pretty much like Android is also a hacked up distro of Linux.
The fact remains that there isn't a native Linux or X11 application of Angry Birds for the ARM or Intel platform yet.
There are some alternatives like using WINE with the Windows version but I have yet to see WINE running on the Pi executing emulated x86 code with acceptable speed.

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
ARMv7 dont you mean. Angry birds for android already works fine on ARMv6 devices, kinda, I own a 600MHz 512mb single core ARMv6 phone running 2.2 kicking around in a drawer somewhere, it runs angry birds, slowly. And the pi isnt much more powerful at 700MHz. The only native code that Angry birds uses is supposedly SDL, box2d and lua, all 3 of which are available for ARMv6, ARMv7, x86 and MIPS ports of android and just about every non android platform out there.rpdom wrote:Ok, I look forward to seeing your port when you have finished rewriting all that for the Pi's ARMv6 instead for the ARMv8 that the N900 usesmrpi64 wrote:told you so!
Some guy did have wine running with ARM compiled PE binaries or something real weird, was uber pointless because the amount of hacking you had to go to in order to run anything you might aswell have just ported to linux on arm in the first place.redhawk wrote:Maemo may well be based on Debian Linux but it's a hacked up distro pretty much like Android is also a hacked up distro of Linux.

Ultimately rovio have no reason to release angry birds on the pi. If we ever get android then I guarantee you that the original angry birds (but not all its successors) wshould run. But thats the only time you will see it. It is technically possible for them to release a native build though.
Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
Technically there isn't any reason why Angry Birds won't run on the Pi I too have a crappy Android phone with an ARMv6 600MHz processor and Adreno 200 GPU.
Unfortunately support for Linux would require support for different GPUs and hardware I don't think Rovio are going to invest much time, effect and money into a dead-end project no more than Broadcom are busy working on Android drivers for the Pi.

Good!
anyway, even if they don't, whats to stop up hacking/decompiling it? or making something like a patch for it, like for MCPI?

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
MCPI wasnt a patch. It was a port of the pocket edition. The pocket edition is already written in C and C++ (android version is then just wrapped up via the android NDK). It was a straight port from one platform to another. It was not a community patch.mrpi64 wrote:Good!

Decompilation is a direct copyright violation. For personal use they probably wont care, but as soon as you post it on these forums you would be liable to be sued by rovio.
Now, rovio have no reason to release angry birds on the pi. None at all. if you want it, go get android working. When android is working on the pi then angry birds for android will run.
Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
I mean a kind of patch for angry-birds that will ENABLE it to use a RPi. or couldn't someone make an android emulator that runs on the pi (debian)?

Re: Angry Birds Pi Edition
Angry Birds is a very trivial game to clone. Why not learn how to make it instead? Its going to be far easier and faster to clone than to create an emulated Android environment.
