Raspberry Pi PSP Analog Thumb Joystick Driver For MAME

Mon Apr 01, 2013 9:37 pm

Using an analog Sony PSP thumb joystick as an analog joystick for MAME on the Raspberry Pi micro computer. Only two components are required, a PSP joystick and an MCP3002 analog to digital converter IC.

Here is a link to a video of the joystick in action:

I'll put this on my list of things to do, but it may be a while away as my current project is relatively big.

Sorry for using an old thread, but I'm trying to do something very similar. I wanted to ask one question: how did you manage to connect an SPI device and an LCD at the same time? For the parallel connection, SPI pins occupy the whole blue line, and your LCD doesn't look like the overpriced DSI one. So what's your solution? If I use RGB666 mode I'll get 6 free GPIO pins for all the buttons... But that doesn't include SPI or I2C...

For this project I used a composite monitor. They are very cheap and use no GPIO pins, but the definition isn't great if you want high resolution.

Search on eBay for "reverse LCD", sort by price lowest first, and you'll find some.

Ah, I know many people do that, but for this project I wanted a bit smaller size (composite displays only come in 4.3"). Well, thanks for telling me :)

The reversing monitor I used from eBay is smaller, about 3.5" across the diagonal the one in the project above.
