Minecraft: Pi Edition out of GUI

Sun Feb 17, 2013 8:36 am

Would it be possible to run Minecraft: Pi Edition from the terminal, because, as of my knowledge, Minecraft is drawn on the screen independantly of the GUI. When originally trying to open minecraft-pi from the terminal, it black-screen'd my Pi, although I think it was running under the black screen.

MC Pi edition uses X for managing keyboard and mouse input.

Have you tried fbcp?

I'm not entirely sure I understand the problem, but controlling Minecraft is usually done from a separate terminal window:
- start Minecraft (all the way into a world)
- open a new terminal window
- navigate to

Code: Select all

<your particular minecraft dir>/api/python
- launch Python

Code: Select all

python
- import control module

Code: Select all

import mcpi.minecraft as minecraft
- get a control

Code: Select all

mc=minecraft.Minecraft.create()
- execute commands on mc

Code: Select all

mc.postToChat("Hello World")
Exactly where the GUI runs is up to you: TV, X-over-ssh, other screen, whatever

It is supposed to let you copy the source for the fbcp from GitHub to your Raspberry Pi and compile fbcp. It looked like that was your question. What would you like to do now?

AndyD,

When I get to the cmake command, it asks for additional options and a directory. What else do I need to add on the lines with cmake and make? Are there any final steps to see Minecraft run in a secondary window?
