Minecraft: Pi Edition - Strange windows and no sound

I've just run Minecraft: Pi Edition and everything seems to be working... except that when I run it, it generates two windows - one like a regular window, with the name and the 'x' in the corner, etc., and then it opens another window offset from the first one with the actual game in it. It's as if the second window has been taken out of the first! Can someone please help me as to how to resolve this problem? Also there's no sound, either.

I believe the 2 window thing is supposed to happen, if you move the 1st window, the game itself will follow. However, the offset I'm not too sure about.

I have the same issue. There a black window and another transparent window (the game) which is offset from the main black window. I tried re-installing it and that didnt help. The official release came out and i installed that one, and notin. same problem. i would like to know the solution to this problem. i know its not supposed to be like this cause the video they have out on it doesnt show it like this.

I'm having the same issues. I was also told on the Raspberry_Pi subreddit that the offset window is supposed to be there, but I'm not buying it. No sound here either. I'l LOVE to get this working if anyone has any ideas.

The offset clearly isn't supposed to be there, but it's hardly a major issue. The problem is due to overscan: overscan moves/scales the Linux framebuffer, but has no effect on the game because it's rendered directly by the GPU without Linux ever seeing it.

We've let Mojang know of a way of fixing this, but in the meantime, you could try disabling overscan yourself (it's an option in raspi-config).

isn't that supposed to be the programming window minecraft includes? If not, guess I'll have to see it when I install it on mine. Hope they fix it if it isn't supposed to be there. Glad it's out now!!! :D

Yes this is happen to me as well. No sound, strange windows. I've checked other programs, Scratch etc., and sound works fine. So this is just apparent just a Minecraft issue, at least with my build.

I've tried disabling overscan, and it works - but it's hardly usable as there is a large portion of the display out of the screen. Thanks for the tip though! :D

I've found that while enabling overscan, it only affects the game when using displays of 720p or lower. I never had to disable my overscan as I use a TV running at 1080p. I only disable it temporarily when I'm bringing my new toy to other people's houses to show off... err.. advertise this device's performance.

However, I may note that when you have this window maximised, you are unable to reach the outside of the screen when you're selecting new colors of blocks. It's almost like an invisible wall around a set number of blocks. I hope anyone reading this understands what I am talking about. I have to put the window in it's original size to access the blocks on the farthest edges of the selection screen.

Of course, this is no big deal and I am in no way complaining... simply because this thing is great. Though I feel it IS worth mentioning.

Lol.... it'd be nice to have fire to make the TNT work.... I've been spending HOURS breaking away blocks to make buildings.

Cheers!

Yeah the offset is there but hardly an issue. The way you can select your inventory in full screen is a total pain though. Has anyone come up with a work around for that? (other than coming out if full screen each time).

No sound here either. Fine otherwise. I only have a single window.

I am getting both issues as well. I think it is possible that they did not implement sound in this version.

I think the current Minecraft doesn't have any sound so that's normal.

I run on a 720p screen and sometime get the 2 windows out of synch.
I believe the black one is the terminal application window while the actual minecraft frame is an overlay where minecraft talks directly to the GPU rather than going through X to be able to get the speed needed.

So, 'normal' behaviour.

I read elsewhere that the sound files arent included in the download, so no sound is deffo deliberate. I assume getting the sound working wont be as simple as copying the files from pocket edition, so will have to wait for mojang on that one.

I was using a HD 1080i tv with HDMI and I had the same problem I have overscan enabled I think.

Don't worry. This is normal. Sounds have not been added yet, and I'm not sure what the staggered windows thing is, but I know it's normal. This is the first publicly available version of Minecraft Pi Edition, so its going to have its quirks.

Ive seen the offset window a few times, I think its a quirk with particular video modes, e.g. I seen it when I use a HDMI->VGA converter but not when I use HDMI only.

In regard to sound, unfortunately there isnt any. I made my own for fun though- http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2013/06/r ... fects.html
