Warzone2100

Thu Jul 02, 2020 8:42 am

There is a new version of Warzone2100 and in this version the graphics work :D
Previous 3.2, 3.3 versions worked on Gentoo64, so the bug was Raspbian related, tlll now.

A Vulkan 1.1 version is getting closer too?
https://wz2100.net/news/
Alpha/Beta Pi drivers are only Vulkan 1.0, so not yet ready to be used.

Warzone2100 3.4 compiles in Raspberry Pi OS, 5.4.x both 32 and 64bit.

Blender 2.79 or Blender for Artists 1.0 will handle the 3D files once WMIT is used to convert the WZ pie files to obj.
https://github.com/inodlite/WMIT

High detail models are possible to now, maybe?

Gimp can be used for the textures?

I have sound issues but I use a DVI monitor and analog audio, need to test WZ on a HDMI TV.

Modding my favorite game Warzone2100 as a way to learn 3D, AI, game coding etc?
All done on the Pi4 :D

Thanks for sharing! By complete coincidence I installed it today (my KDE told me I have new updates - which made me 'discover' app called 'discover' which was loaded to do the updates which made me look at other software provided which made me ended up browsing games which, after forcefully made him go for a run with me I had to cheer up my little son and let me choose game and he picked up Warzone 2100!)

After finding out it has issues with graphics (textures?) my son said that I should look up how to fix it and - here I am! I've already recompiled it and it works quite well.

Only thing that's different in comparison to one installed through apt is that when started, in windowed mode, you cannot change resolution. You can do it by switching to fullscreen, change it to whatever and then switching back to windowed more... Does that help somehow?

Oh, BTW, it's Pi4 (8GB) + SS4 on beta 64bit PiOS... (updated, I think)... KDE as windows manager if that could make any difference...

I figured out how to put the Art Revolution mod on (read the wiki)
Played a short time on one map and saved it for tomorrow, er later today
Just read all 56 pages of the Art Rev story, very impressed.

The window size seems to get saved to the configure and then you need to restart, no big deal.
The default size was fine for me so I did not notice.

Did sound work for you?
Not working for 3.4 but it was for my old 3.2 version.
3.4 is now using VR type sound, HRFT?
My Beta 5.4 OS's are having sound issues, no big deal, they are beta.

I have learned more about 3D modding in the last two days than all the years I played it.
There is even a rocket and smoke trail mod :o

I am so keen now to make my own mods.
Mad Max beyond thunder Dome mod?
Steam Punk retro mod?
Need to learn Blender and Baking textures.

Gave up learning about game engines, they are hard.
Will wait till Vulkan drivers and Godot 4 are out before looking at that again.

Got it to work on Gentoo64 :D
Sakaki also keeps Gentoo64 ahead of the more stable Raspberry Pi OS which is based on Debian.
Only needed three dependencies as Gentoo64 usually has more stuff install by default than Raspberry Pi OS.

I am growing to like the AR mod, I can zoom in closer and see more detail.

I've installed it on Raspberry Pi 4 aarch64 and it runs but the colours are messed up, the version is

Code: Select all

warzone2100/stable,now 3.2.1-3+deb10u1 armhf
The current version is 3.4.1 but there is no link to aarch64 version, where do I get a more up to date version? I can find the source but only instructions for Linux, has anyone tred to build it for aarch64 or know where some instructions are?

I have built it many times without much hassle on Gentoo64, from version 3.1 years ago
New 3.41 works in Twister OS too.

Had some issues with audio and the oil derrick animation is a bit weird but it works fine.
Love the new mortar smoke trails etc.
