I've installed a fresh retropie image, performed rpi-update and rebooted. My f310 now runs through the configurations fine, but when I get back to the main screens I have no control through the controller. Is there another step I'm missing? I rebooted and still have no control.

Hi ab2ms.
What kernel version do you have after the rpi-update? My four Logitech F310 work fine on Rasbian + rpi-update. I never tried it with retropi. My kernel version is 3.10.18+. If you have something older than this kernel version, that may be the reason.

Perhaps its associated with the new kernel/drivers, the XBox360 pad (Wired) refused to work until some changes were made to the /etc/rc.local script
From
xboxdrv --trigger-as-button --id 0 --led 2 --deadzone 4000 --silent & sleep 1
To
xboxdrv --trigger-as-button --id 0 --led 2 --detach-kernel-driver --deadzone 4000 --silent & sleep 1
It may be a similar issue

To fix my problem all I did was flick the switch on the back to X. Open up the RetroPie option. Then configure keyboard/joystick and did what it told me to do. Oh and btw i'm running 3.0 beta!

I use the Logitech F310 on OSMC and Lakka on the Raspberry Pi 3 and it works perfectly fine on xinput mode
