Hello everyone. I seem to be having a problem with the intellivision emulator. On every ROM I've tried, the pi looks like its attempting to launch the rom, but then returns to the main emulation station menu. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a huge issue right now with emulation station. I picked for it to start on boot and now it freezes When emulation station start. Have to pull the plug because it completely freezes up. Tried a bunch of times which isn't good for the pi lol. Is there any way to stop it from booting so I can start up startx and troubleshoot the issue. Fear I have to start completely over ughhhh

@dddoge I'm also having this very same issue, I've tried placing the needed BIOS files "grom.bin" & "exec.bin" in my intellivision roms folder and I've tried changing the resolution from -z0 to -z1 in es_systemscfg (see this topic: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... on#p185323) to fit my small LCD but still no luck.

I am having the same trouble with AdvMAME (tries to boot rom, then fails and goes back to the emulationstation menu), tried a large amount of different ROMs but to no avail. I believe Petrockblog might be going back to iMAME4all as I've read on his Github (see: https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie ... issues/131) that he wasn't having much luck with AdvMAME. iMAME4all worked for me in the past but for select ROMs.

I did get the TurboGrafx16 emulator to work, turns out that not every ROM functions, but "Batman" and "Street Fighter II" are working for me right now.

@Willup are you using the Petrockblog .img file or did you do your own installation with Raspbian, RaspBMC, RISC-OS, etc.? I have had the very same problem when using a RaspBMC(v4) install.

Regarding AdvMAME: Welshy gave me the hint to use the ROM name without the extension. That did the trick for me and I was able to start MAME roms. I did not play around much more with AdvMAME, though.

Thanks for the reply Petrockblog! Just to clarify do you mean changing the %ROM% to %BASENAME% under "COMMAND=" line in es_system.cfg to:

Code: Select all

 COMMAND=/home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/advancemame-0.94.0/installdir/bin/advmame %BASENAME% --config /home/pi/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
or do you mean removing the .zip extension on the ROM files themselves?

Unfortunately, the first option doesn't seem to fix it and the previous one doesn't allow for the ROMs to be viewed in emulationstation. I've tried with both composite and HDMI outputs, I must be missing something simple.

--config /home/pi/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
Delete this line.
It's not used by advmame and it's probably the cause of your problems.

I just want to let you know that I have added the option for installing VICE for C64 emulation to the RetroPie Setup Script yesterday!

I am sure that the configuration of VICE can still be tweaked quite a lot (wrt to performance, sound, and controls) and I would be glad if you could post suggestions.

Besides that, I hope you enjoy some time with Giana Sisters or Boulder Dash ;-)

@kalehrl Thanks for that, it helped, the emulator actually tried to load the ROMs (was able to at least see a text dump) but unfortunately I still had no joy as I couldn't find a ROM that worked with AdvMAME.

I ended up giving up and moving to RetroPie .img ver 1.3 http://blog.petrockblock.com/download/r ... ect-image/ which uses iMAME4ALL and was back in business. For clarity on my testing I am using the free ROMs on http://www.mamedev.org as a benchmark.

Nice thing about version 1.3 too is that it came with Cave Story pre-installed, a sweet bonus!

Anyone getting any positive results with the intellivision emulator?

I'm also not too sure about what I'm doing wrong with the Doom emulator, I figured it'd be as simple as throwing a .WAD file into the Doom rom folder and off you go but that wasn't the case. Do you need a certain type of .wad because the one I grabbed was just a certain map I beleive? I know...noob questions here, I played Doom when it first came out but wasn't really experienced enough to be part of the community that came up with all the additions/hacks.

While I'm here I guess I should ask about Duke Nuke 'em 3D, anyone have a tutorial on a legit installation of this game with RetroPie, from purchasing the game from 3D Realms http://www.3drealms.com/duke3d/index.html (or using the shareware version) to getting the files placed in the correct RetroPie/RetroArch folders? I've been up and down the forums and even resorted to googling...couldn't seem to get it going.

Yep I definitely found your post useful, thanks, but unfortunately it doesn't address these questions in particular.

Emulationstation doesn't work with dispmanx SDL libs.
You need to restore your default SDL libs by reinstalling libsdl1.2:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall libsdl1.2debian
You can run dgen with dispmanx if you use export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/path/to/your/SDL-dispmanx/libs" prior to running dgen.

I installed the xboxdrv, and I can not get my xbox controller working. It detects it, but when I run the retroarch-joyconfig it doesn't detect any button presses or anything. And have to hit ctrl-c to quit it.

I am using the instructions from here: https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie ... controller

any suggestions?
I had the same problem as you until I found out that my xbox controller only corresponds to retroarch-joyconfig -p 1 -j 2. My next issue is to get "controller -j 2" to be recognized in the front-end.

If this helps at all: ES only automatically allows for configuring the first joystick. However, once it has been configured, it will attempt to "track" it by name, by opening the first joystick found with the same name as the originally configured joystick (as reported by the driver, which should, in theory, be consistent).

If you can't get it to work, open an issue on GitHub. One solution might be to add a "force joystick at ID" option.

Thanks you very much !
So i will restore lib sdl.
maybe emulationstation will support dismanx in a future release.

So ES only targets -j 0 ? I have no idea why my -wid 0 corresponds to -j 2. Do you thinks it would be possible to add the controller name manually inside the "es_input.cfg"?

Can someone with an SNES controller let me know what values retroarch-joyconfig shows for the D-pad? I've tried configuring it multiple times and I'm don't know what I'm doing wrong but it's binding up to up/right, down to down/left. I've tried two controllers and two USB adapters (same brand, this one).

This is the config it's outputting:

Code: Select all

input_player1_joypad_index = "0"
input_player1_a_btn = "1"
input_player1_b_btn = "0"
input_player1_x_btn = "3"
input_player1_y_btn = "2"
input_player1_l_btn = "4"
input_player1_r_btn = "5"
input_player1_start_btn = "7"
input_player1_select_btn = "6"
input_player1_left_axis = "-0"
input_player1_up_axis = "-1"
input_player1_right_axis = "-1"
input_player1_down_axis = "-0"
Thanks!

try switching the right and down axis to
input_player1_right_axis = +1
input_player1_down_axis = +0
you don't need the quotations around the numbers. I think this will work

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that didn't work. The Pi doesn't seem to respond to those buttons being pressed no matter what I set them to. Both controllers/adapters work on my Windows desktop, I did a few searches and found a bunch of Mac users and one Linux user with the same problem so it sounds like a driver issue. Anyone have any ideas on if it's possible to fix it? None of the threads I found had any solutions.

Or does anyone have a SNES -> USB adapter that does work, and if so what brand?

Just to be sure: You have set these configurations in the file

Code: Select all

/home/pi/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
if you are using the default installation from the RetroPie Setup.
Also, if the command line tool "jstest" responses to your joystick, one can say that it is "just" a matter of emulator configuration, because the OS is recognizing the joystick device.

Hi Guys,

I am having a problem with RetroPie. I installed the image to my SD and it booted fine.

I tried to run the default game on there and it crashes after around 1 minute.

It completely freezes and I have to hard reboot! I added a new .GB ROM to test to no avail.

I have turbo over clock and 256 memory split.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks
Ash

You might want to try lowering that overclock. Turbo is often unstable and that could be related to your problem.

Could someone please help me. I downloaded the 1.3.1 sd card image and put it on an 8gb sd card using RPi-sd card builder v1.2 on my mac. It copied fine. I then edited the config.txt overscan and framebuffer width/height for my 4.3" rca connected screen. I also have a wireless keyboard connected to the pi. I powered it up and it booted up fine and then showed the retropie splash screen. Then it went black and doesnt show anything else. I redownloaded the image and also tried another sd card, but this keeps on happening. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

@moblo, Not sure where you're finding the config.txt file but the file you want to adjust is retroarch.cfg

For your RCA monitor these are the settings that work well for me:

video_aspect_ratio_auto = true
video_aspect_ratio = 1.25

Otherwise, have you expanded the root directory to fill the SDcard with raspi-config? Added any Roms to your folders, Cave story should show up right away but it doesn't hurt to have a few more to test.

Thanks for your reply. I edit the config.txt by plugging in the sd card and editing it on the small partition that comes up (boot partition?). After the splash screen, it goes blank so I cant edit anything. It wont go to the shell. Any suggestions of how I am supposed to edit it?
