Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

If you're not actively playing games on it, that should be possible. The front-end, EmulationStation, is a little CPU hungry, but if you leave it idle for 30 seconds (by default) it will go into "sleep mode" and leave most of the CPU free.

Cool, so if I were to set it up so that the web server would begin to run, then have EmulationStation start, it should work?

I'm getting an error that retroarch fails to compile/install, along with some of the cores (but I'll ignore them for now). Any idea on what the problem could be? Everything else works fine. Here's the debug.log:

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

Sun Oct 27, 2013 8:33 pm

Okay, I managed to get most things working. Only problem I'm now having is the PSX core, N64 core and PPSSPP core failing to compile. I get the following output when trying to directly compile the PSX core:

Code: Select all

plugins/dfsound/out.o: In function `SetupSound':
/home/pi/RetroPie/emulatorcores/pcsx_rearmed/plugins/dfsound/out.c:34: undefined reference to `out_register_libretro'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [pcsx] Error 1

And here's the log file for when I try and install through the RetroPie-Setup Installer:

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/retroarch does NOT exist.
/usr/local/bin/retroarch-zip does NOT exist.

I know that the PPSSPP emulator is currently making problems and I do not know a solution to make it compile myself. The other emulators should work. I need to have a look into that this evening.

I am having issues comiling the N64 core, I noticed this post:

http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... ie#p437668

The problem for that issue is the lack of RAM for the comilation. I have an idea that if I allocated for RAM to for compilation to the CPU and maybe see about increasing the size of the SWAP that it might improve the chance of compilation.

Is this a good/bad idea?

Mupen64plusRpi should compile on a 256MEG Rpi with no 'Swap file' so long as a MAXIMUM of 64MEG is applied to the GPU. If in doubt, just apply 16MEG the GPU then reset to your usual settings when the compile is completed.

See Here - http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 78&t=58395

You can simply go into the system theme file in home/pi/.emulationstation (its a hidden foleder) then open up the xml file that corresponds to that particular system. Once open you should see a section mentioning fonts. Just delete that section and the font you see on Aloshi's website will be shown instead of the retro blocky one.

If you want you could also place you own font .tff file onto the pi and then use any font you wish! :D

SD Card Issues/Fills up too fast

Sat Nov 23, 2013 1:00 am

I installed RetroPie 1.8.1 on a 16GB Class 4 SD card. When I fill it up with about 1GB of roms, the SSH program I'm using(WinSCP), tells me it can't copy because of an unforeseen error. When I go into the command line to check the total storage ("df -h") it tells me its 100% full. Can anybody help me solve this? Btw, I am completely new to anything linux, so I would ask that anyone clearly specify commands and instructions. Thanks in advanced!!

Have you expanded the file system? On the command line type sudo raspi-config then once the script is up select 'expand file system'.

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

I am unable to hear any audio output.

The strangest thing happened. I couldn't get my video to display (HDMI) for the longest time, but I could hear the audio in game (theme music, etc). I eventually changed the '1' to '2' in the es_system file for each emulator and the video finally displayed for each rom. Yay! But in this process, I pulled out my TV so I could reach an ethernet cord with my Pi. When I put the TV back and rehooked up the system, my audio would not work in or out of game (eg. playing wav files).

The problem is not the TV. I can use HDMI with my laptop or other device to play video and audio still. It appears that the fact that I moved my TV has nothing to do with the issue I'm having, and something went screwy while I was playing with video settings.

But so far I've tried:

- Rewriting RetroPie image, starting from scratch. Nothing.
- Tweaking boot config.txt settings. Although I could be missing something.
- Tweaking retroarch config. But that shouldn't prevent me from hearing audio files playing from the cmdline.

What do I do? I've been stuck on this for days now. I can post my current config if necessary.

Hi
I added some roms to the megadrive on my RetroPie setup yesterday and then updated the gamelist
now the gameslist doesn't load it just deafults to the list of files in the rom dir...
i have done this countless times while setting everything up and never had a problem before
I did recently do "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" to get my system to work on another rpi
but it was fine until I updated the gamelist.xml file
anyone got any ideas what ive done wrong?

the 2 games i added with there entrys to the gamelist

Code: Select all

Your formatting not valid XML.

Code: Select all

<image/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/megadrive/Desert_Strike.png/>
should be

Code: Select all

(and similar for the other one)

Quick question just to be sure, compiling/installing just Mupen64 via source-based installation in the setup script shouldn't affect my tweaked config files/other emulators?

If you select only Mupen 64 RPi in the RetroPie Setup Script, you can find the exact actions of the script at https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie ... shinc#L468. As an answer to your questions: no other config files will be touched. Generally, though, it might be a good idea to backup your tweaked files, if you spent a considerable amount of time with it.

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

Sun Dec 22, 2013 2:58 am

I've managed to get everything installed and running more or less.

However, I'm trying to track down the cause of an issue I'm having with my Gamecube controller. I've wired the GC controller to the GPIO and I am using the gamecon_gpio_rpi kernel module. I can run jstest against the device, and I can see all of the buttons and axes working per the output of the test.

The issue I am running into is that the actual input setup phase when initially setting up (when first running emulationstation) is that there seems to be a large amount of lag with the controller.

I am wondering if anyone has any specific advice regarding the setup of the GC controller and emulationstation. I'm guessing the issue is with gamecon_gpio_rpi - even in the test it appears that there is some lag.

Best,
Dave

The driver polls controller(s) in 10ms intervals, so it shouldn't add too much latency in itself. If a read fails for some reason, additional lag could occur. Are you using official or 3rd-party GC controller? I've only tested the official, which worked reliably for me.

Note that there always seems to be minor input lag with emulators on Pi, which I guess is due to graphics drivers / HW. However, the lag should be no more when using a controller instead of keyboard.

I just installed retropie with the petrokblcock tutorial and wheni try to launch emulationstation i get this error:
/home/pi/RetroPie/supplementary/EmulationStation/emulationstation: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_filesystem.so.1.49.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

i installed the libboost library and still get the same error.

I have a raspberry pi model B and a 16GB SD Card.
I use the lastest version of raspbian 2014-01-07-wheezy with NOOBS 1.3.4.
I followed this tutorial step by step.

I am not sure where i went wrong, does anyone know which version of raspbian you need to install retropie with this setup ?

nicosalto,

I just went through my tutorial about 10 times this morning. I have a full table of contents and step by step instructions that cover much more than the basic set on GitHub. I'm adding more and more as I test out ROM situations. Take a look :mrgreen: :

I'm not able to configure the 2nd player on final burn alpha pi.
THT Arcade console 2P USB Player is detected as only one joystick "js0" with 4 axes and 22 buttons.

jstest /dev/input/js0
Axes: 0: 0 1: 0 2: 0 3: 0 Buttons: 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off 7:off 8:off 9:off 10:off 11:off 12:off 13:off 14:off 15:off 16:off 17:off 18:off 19:off 20:off 21:off

Every axes and buttons work in jstest, retroarch and gngeo but not with final burn alpha pi.

fba2x.cfg:
[Joystick]
# Get codes from "jstest /dev/input/js0"
# from package "joystick"
A_1=0
B_1=1
X_1=2
Y_1=3
L_1=4
R_1=5
START_1=7
SELECT_1=6
#Joystick axis
JA_LR=0
JA_UD=1
#player 2 button configuration
A_2=10
B_2=11
X_2=12
Y_2=13
L_2=14
R_2=15
START_2=16
SELECT_2=17
#Joystick axis
JA_LR_2=2
JA_UD_2=3

Thanks for your help.
