Hopefully these links/images work; I'm at work at the moment and these sites are blocked, so apologies for any broken links.
I've started working on a little project involving the Pi Zero and a cheap handheld system. I've been over various iterations of this idea for a long time and never really done anything with it.
Just before Ben Heck made his version I had the idea of making a portable Raspberry Pi emulator system. What initially put me off was the case: I have zero CAD skills and zero access to a 3D printer.
Whilst somewhat drunk a few weeks ago I started looking for a handheld system that I could possibly stuff a Raspberry Pi into. And I found this:

It's a handheld Megadrive/Genesis emulator. The sound emulation is way off, but aside from that it's a pretty neat little unit. More importantly however it has 6 face buttons and a couple of other ancillary buttons. This is ideal: I like fighting games (namely Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom) and you really need 6 buttons for that - plus you'll also need keys for Start, Insert Coin, etc.
I did a little review here. Apologies: my current webcam is utterly atrocious, and I don't exactly have studio quality lighting.

For a while I didn't really do anything with it (other than play on it!) because it really didn't look like I'd get a Pi in there, even if I stripped off all the unneeded connectors. Then the zero was released. So here's what happened since then.

I really need to make sure that the GPIO TFT will fit in the case. There's enough room in the case, but when the screen is centred there looks like there might be a bit of overhang on the bottom of the PCB. Once I know whether the screen will fit properly I can crack on. I will probably mount everything on some kind of board, but I don't know whether to design my own PCB or just use protoboard.
I'll keep the video logs going, but I'm kind of hanging back for now: I really really need to get a better camera.
