Running Steam games on Raspberry Pi 3b+

Tue May 18, 2021 12:42 pm

Hello there,

so I've been trying and reading in on a lot of stuff on how to get this working, but it either seems like I'm trying to achieve the impossible or I'm just missing something. My goal is to run Steam Clicker games on the Pi.

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to the Pi, but from what I've been reading it's not just possible to run steam games like this because Pis use 86x chips instead of x86-64. It should be possible by using box86 though. I've succesfully installed Steam and box86 on my Pi and I even manage to log in into Steam and start the game, but once I'm past the resolution and graphics window, a new window pops up and my Pi crashes.

Now I'm honestly confused whether the game is just too demanding for the Pi or if I'm missing something else.

Game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3857 ... _Clickers/

Would appreciate any help!

The Raspberry Pi SBC and Compute Module have ARM CPU in the SoC, not 86x :?

Suggest you ask the BOX86 developers on Discourse for help as they support their software.

make sure the dependency's are working. even with native arm, sometimes running applications not meant for the pi can break (for me, lighting engines are always the issue)
also, i recommend buying the pi 4 for gaming, as it have a MAJOR CPU and GPU upgrade, and my pi 4 GB has had little trouble with emulation

Yeah, so you're probably looking for Steam Link. You won't be able to run any games directly from a Pi hardware, but you can stream it, no problem.

You can try giving box86 a shot. Not sure how well it will run on the 3B+ and probably need the kernel split for wine on the 3B+ so might be worth installing pi-apps and then installing everything through that. Just be careful with pi-apps though, sometimes it has a mind of it's own and I've had it delete stuff on me without warning and other people have had their entire systems ruined.

If you're knowledgeable enough, just poke through the install scripts and manually install things, safer that way and if you screw anything up then it's on you only.
