In this post I’m going to teach you how to install Minecraft pi modded both with and without pi apps, and how to get started playing survival and multiplayer.
Before we get started I’d like to point out there’s already a thread for survival in Minecraft pi here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=275359&hilit=Minecraft+for+free But sadly it’s using older mods and needs updating.
I also want to point out that there’s a thread for mcpi-revival here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=287089&p=1735437&h ... l#p1735437 But it’s also somewhat outdated and it’s installation tutorial is no longer functional.
The easiest way to install Minecraft pi modded is with botspot’s pi apps program. It has the install scripts for many apps that are nice to have on a raspberry pi such as zoom and discord.
To install it:
Code: Select all
wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Botspot/pi-apps/master/install | bash
From there click on games, and double click Minecraft Pi (Modded)
To install select the install button at the bottom of the window.
Without Pi Apps
Since we understand you may want to use Minecraft pi modded without having pi apps installed, there’s a way to install mcpil completely from the terminal.
Code: Select all
wget -qO- "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Botspot/pi-apps/master/apps/Minecraft%20Pi%20(Modded)/install" | bash
Have fun playing mcpi!
Playing Minecraft Pi
Now that you’ve got it installed let’s get started playing Minecraft!
Go to your app launcher, choose mcpil and a new window should pop up that looks like this:
You can always select classic MCPI if you want the original unmodded version but the other options are generally considered better.
Modded MCPI will give you the classic mcpi GUI but with survival mode accessible in the world creation menu and some graphical improvements.
Classic MCPE will launch Minecraft pi with the pocket edition ui, this will give you a better survival experience but there wont be any other mods.
Finally, Custom Profile will let you control which mods are enabled and when by selecting them in the features tab and hitting save.
Now that we’ve chosen a profile, let’s play!
Firstly, singleplayer. If you’ve created any worlds in un-modified Minecraft pi they should be accessible to you just by hitting play and choosing them from the list.
For survival worlds, we recommend picking modded MCPI or classic MCPE to load them otherwise you’ll experience some buggy gameplay.
Onward to multiplayer! Minecraft Pi edition has a rich and active community as well as a few multiplayer servers.
By default mcpil will connect you to https://thebrokenrail.com:19132. You can connect to it by choosing modded MCPI or classic MCPE and choosing Join Game. From there it should show up in the list of servers, and you can connect by clicking on it.
Another server, pbpt anarchy isn’t listed by default but can be added by going to the multiplayer tab in mcpil and entering the following:
Code: Select all
IP address: pbptanarchy.tk Port: 19132

That’s all folks!
