NES emulator on Rasp Pico

Wed Mar 31, 2021 8:31 pm

Recently the new Pi Pico was launched to the public.
It's a dual ARM Cortex M0+ Microcontroller sold at about $5.00

It's a really nice architecture!
In order to test its power, I decided to develop a C/C++ NES Emulator that could run a game such as Castlevania - which I loved playing when I was a child.

And... I've done it!

I've made my Pico emulate a NES and play Castlevania.
This specific game is very high CPU intensive and making it work in 60 FPS was a nice challenge.
High quality Sound/FX and smooth video graphics.

Pico dual Core at 250MHz => VGA 8bpp/256 colors + PDM (for sound) + PS/2 Keyboard controlling it.
Everything in a single MCU board.

It runs other simple games such as Pacman, Mario xxx, Galaga, Arkanoids and so on.
Very impressive for a simple ARM Cortex M0+ MCU!

What would finish this project off is and sd card slot and a file selection menu.
Hope you are willing to share the sources.
