I made a installer script for the whole process. rpiMike you can update the forum with it if you want. :D
do this in terminal: git clone https://github.com/Minecraft1-12-2Pi/Mi ... 1.12.2.git
That script takes some time to run for me.... (OK, it starts with a system upgrade, so that could explain the time it takes)
Also, it is hardcoded about where in the directory tree the Minecraft1.12.2 folder is. Not the best to do...

After placing it in the correct place, I've found at least two bugs in the script:
The optifine it downloads is not correctly moved do Downloads
It installs 1.12.1 version of optifine

I'm going to do the 1.12.2 install manual, I think...

Could you please update the readme with eaxtly what it installs?
It's still in beta testing. What do you mean by "Could you please update the readme with exactly what it installs?"? Also, if you'd like to work with me on this, I'm open.

I think he/she means in your readme file, post what your script installs, Optifine 1.12.2, mods, etc

I fixed the repo, should work now. The official optifine download page uses a verification key. That is why it wouldn’t work.

Which model of Pi? Which OS? Which version of Minecraft are you trying to run? What is the error?

So I got the game to launch finally using minecraft 1.12 and the optifine provided in the original post. However, when I try to create a world, the game freezes and my raspberry pi basically just stops. It freezes when "building terrain" It won't process any mouse input. Have I done something wrong like wrong gpu memory or bad setting in minecraft? I was really excited when the game launched after working on it for hours, but I have to say I am disappointed in the results. If anyone knows what might be going on please help.

Which Pi are you using? Did you get glxgears running at close to 60fps? Don't run any other applications when trying to run Minecraft.

Please don't forget this is a £30 educational single board computer - its a miracle it works at all!

They want $35 can for this? I wanted to set one up as an experimental server to show my friends how the pi can handle it, but I cannot justify the cost.

PS: excellent tutorial though. Thank you for your work.

Im using the rpi 3 b+
glxgears works fine at 60 fps. I restarted the installation process at the beginning and went through more carefully. I got the game to launch and load a level! I was getting very respectable fps but as soon as I broke a block the game crashed.... frustrated but mildly amused at the same time.

So I tried closing all background apps and had just minecraft running. It works! 30-40 fps average with peaks in 50 fps. Thank you for the guide. I dont know why it crashed before. Probably ran out of RAM space and just freaked out.

Anyone else that cares: Can confirm that Minecraft runs on the pi 3 b+ using this guide. 1.12.1 version is the only one I tested so I cant speak for other versions.

I've been trying to get this going, and today, seemingly everything installed and went as it should, but when I try and run the game this is what follows. Can anyone help me with what to do next?

Any number of things could have gone wrong during the installation. The error log says something like java could not find the Optifine class to execute OptifineTweaker, so that leads me to believe that maybe something went wrong with the optiFine installation. What version of Optifine did you download? Did you run ./runOptifine1_12_1.sh in the terminal? You must launch the game with that script.

I've been running a SpigotMC Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 SMP server on a Pi3B for almost a year now. It works well for a small group of players (most I've had online at once is 4 on my Creeper Pie server). SpigotMC is much faster than the Mojang supplied server, so it's worth the extra time and effort to build.

Considering the low heat, noise and power consumption, I think $35 (+PSU and uSD card) is a steal.

On the other hand, I don't actually play Minecraft on a Pi. While it is impressive that people have gotten it to work, the short render distance and other graphical reductions needed are too much of a compromise for me. So I play on my laptop and connect to my Creeper Pi3 server.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

I played minecraft on a pi for a few months, after the server I played reset due to "fake" backups, I quit as it was a waste of time and not the most enjoyable experience. Grinders drop to 1-12 fps which is basically unplayable. Minecraft on a pi is definitely not going to win you any duels either ;)
