SD card problem

Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:51 pm

Hello, one month ago I installed the Debian on my SD card for my Raspberry pi. But today, I decided to install Android on the SD card. So I formated the card and then, it showed me, that there is only 55,5mb free space of 55,7mb available space. But my card is 8gb. I tryed to format my card ten times, but it always happens the same. What can I do, to put it back to 8 gb?

Thanks for the answers!

in my experience it means some of the flash has died, or in this case all of it. Apparently thats not always the case though, especially with the windows formatting tools

You need to use a Linux OS or put it into a digital camera to format it because Windows will not see the partitions.

Also, to use all of the space of the card once the OS is installed, you need to expand the root partition in raspi-config.

You should delete all partitions from the SD card first. You can do this with standard partitioning tools like the Logical Disk Manager within Windows (Start > Run > MMC > File > Add > Logical Disk Manager > Add > OK).

The thing is; Linux uses a different filesystem that is not available to Windows. To reinstall the card, you should delete the partitions with this filesystem.

You also have the option of using something like Ubuntu to put a dual boot on your computer this is harder if your working with a MAC and can be a fiddly option with Vista or Windows 7/8 but a doddle using XP.

Most Ubuntu disks will also boot from the CD/DVD. ;)
