RPi Powered Tablet?

Sun Dec 09, 2012 4:49 pm

Hello forumers.

I was thinking of starting a project of a Android tablet powered from the RPi.

Here are some BASIC things that i need.
-Raspberry Pi.
-Touchscreen display
-Battery
-Ported Android
-Some sort of case.

Now, this is how I am going to wire the stuff up.
For the battery, I have found a battery pack that i can use a USB to MicroUSB cable to connect it to the raspberry pi. You can find that here.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PortaPow-Premiu ... 904&sr=1-8

For the case, I will make a custom case, probably out of plastic. It will be able to hold the raspberry pi in place and have easy access to the battery pack. I will use extended cables to the edge of the case to have an external HDMI port on the case, as well as some USB ports.

For the screen, I am using an 10" screen, which the touchscreen works on USB. I am not sure if it will work with android or not.

That is my plan on creating a Tablet. If anyone knows any easier ways of going around things, please post.

Buy a Android tablet.

Reason 1 : Android for Pi is slow , and 4.0 is simply unsusable.
The accelerated build from Broadcom is absolutely not high priority for
the foundation and not publicly availble at all.

Reason 2 : This will be very expensive compared to a premade tablet.
And you will loose time. And it won't be as smooth as a premade one.

Tip: Buy a ODROID , they have Android as priority OS and a completely
different goal.

It is possible, but please realize that it will cost you a lot more than a equavilent android tablet already in production
There is also not a "fast" android build completed yet, Both razdroid and broadcom are still working towards that

A 7 inch Touchdisplay cost 55€ stores.ebay.com/chinatobby
A model accu kost 20 €
That is much cheaper than a n Adroid-Tablet.

You can have Android tablets as cheap as 80 EUR. Do you get your RPI for free ? The unique interest would be GPIO but definitely not the price !

You're missing a Pi , tools, cables , time , effort , driver boards and software drivers.
And casing.

If and when the RPI comes out with their raw LCD panel interface design for the PI's DSI connector this plan may make more sense.

No HW acceleration on community builds - and Broadcom will not release the build
because we ask. And the foundation has other things to do
(check their stated goals).

Shouldn't there be a sticky in this section so no one has to say the same things, over and over, again.

Say something hateful about the "foundation" or Jamesh and you'll surely get attention.

Is that like saying "bomb" in an email to get the governments attention?
