Running android apps on Raspberry

Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:02 am

I'm guessing that android apps (APK files) can't run natively under the OS that comes with Raspberry pi 4 (which is called Raspian? Which is a version of Debian Linux?).

Is there an emulator that I can run on a stock Raspberry that will allow me to run an android app (nothing really complex like a game, I'm thinking of the Parlor social app which should be simple). Or is my only choice to swap out the OS for an actual version of Android?

Helpful as ever...

OP; no, RPIOS can *NOT* run android apps or emulators for android. you're better off just using Lineage 17.1/18 and using Android thus installing android apps.

You could always use different SDCARDS, one for RPIOS and one for Android.

'Anbox' may be worth looking at.

Thanks, I'll look into Anbox.

I was thinking that since there are (many) Android emulators for Windows, and since android is a derivative of linux, that it should be easier to make an emulator for Raspian (I'll call it Raspian because I think it was called that recently, maybe it's called something else now).

Since May 2020 it is Raspberry Pi Operating System, previously called Raspbian:

Check to ascertain if anbox is in the repositories.......

Looks like they claim you can run APK:

or
https://konstakang.com/devices/rpi4/LineageOS17.1/

I didn't check it though.

Sorry Guys and Girls I get a little confused.
There is a Communication Software who offer cheap Calls in there own Network but there Software work only on Android (and Apple :? ).
I need a Device who run 24/7 just with the Software in case someone out of there Network want, need contact me.
I dont like when such an important Software run on my Pc since the can crash, hang,... or what ever. (Windows... ).
So can I Install Android or something on an Pi HW to run the Software together with an (USB) Headset?
Thanks

In the Android Section of the forum are releases of LineageOS (AOSP), the releases are compiled by Konsta who is an extremely helpful developer. Therefore choose a suitable *Android* release and test yourself is the only way to ensure it will work for you ;)
