GPU update and vchiq

Tue May 28, 2013 3:26 pm

Hello,

Does the update to the GPU firmware mean that sound applications will not use the vchiq mechanism, assuming correct ALSA config?

ALSA uses vchiq (for Pi's analogue and HDMI outputs).

If ALSA still uses vchiq even after the modification to the driver to do real MMAP, what was the purpose of the change? I don't really understand what the change was for if it was not to avoid using vchiq. Javier's page seems to suggest that the change takes vchiq out of the equation.
