Kernel package name/behaviour

Sun Jun 12, 2016 7:34 pm

Now that the kernel has it's own package, would it be possible to give it a name in line with other kernel packages e.g. linux-image-4.4.0-rpi3 (package version would then be 4.4.9-rpi3-[preemt]) and make it emit appropriate triggers for creating/updating e.g. initramfs like other kernel packages?

Debian's kernel packaging just isn't suitable, the pi is too different and has different aims. Renaming the package would just give an illusion of compatibility that isn't there. The new kernel does run hooks, but tells initramfs-tools that initrd is not needed. If you would like to generate an initramfs, I would recommend adding your own hook to do so.
