Kernel Source

Mon Apr 11, 2016 11:07 am

Why aren't there tarballs available for download?
Why am I being forced to install git when I have no use for it, just so I can get a copy of your specific kernel source?
Since 1995 I've been able to download linux kernel source code as a tarball, why doesn't Raspberry Pi conform to that?

@Hear : github.com/raspberrypi/linux ?

you can haz zip archive #github.com/raspberrypi/linux/archive/rpi-4.1.y.zip

its not tar.gz or even .xz but as long as some way to decode a 'zip' file is avalable that should suffice ,
... hopefully :| you are not on a pay per kb dial-up or mobile

The zip options doesn't work, you end up with corrupted files.

Try it download it, unzip and and run a make mrproper. You'll end up with errors about one of the driver file makefiles having no rules to make mrproper.

Replace .zip with .tar.gz in the URL, so:
#github.com/raspberrypi/linux/archive/rpi-4.1.y.tar.gz

Thank you for that.
