Problems getting at workable updated kernel (RPi Zero) [solved]

Mon Feb 12, 2018 2:32 pm

I have a couple of patches I need to test on the RPiZ, so I checked out the latest firmware (which had 4.14.18), took the /proc/config.gz from that working confgurationi and then I cross-built a new kernel (4.14.15) following the instructions here.

But I can't even get the new kernel to boot. I'm a bit stumped over overlays, since no overlays exists in the kernel build named *.dtb*.

Ideas?

Turns out the kernel built was for ARMv7 not v6, so when explicitly giving KERNEL=kernel on the command line when building:

Code: Select all

KERNEL=kernel ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- make -j5 zImage modules dtbs
everything came together :)

Return to “Linux Kernel”
