Kernel doesn't start after buildroot rebuild

Hi,

I use buildroot for build kernel and rootfs [https://github.com/nezticle/RaspberryPi-BuildRoot]. I need do same changes for linux kernel. I do make menuconfig in /output/build/linux-custom directory then copy .config to board/raspberrypi/ and then do make for buildroot. The kernel is compiled and image and rootfs are created. I move boot and rootfs tars to SD card and start RPi but only logo appears, kernel not start and aren't any messages on screen. So where I do mistake and how to change kernel's config inside a buildroot?

Thanks,
Alex.

Files are the same when I built kernel image and rootfs using linux-3.2-raspberrypi.config. All my actions are same too.

Yes, sure.

I think the kernel's .config file is wrong but I can't understand why.

The problem is solved. I should do "make linux-menuconfig" in buildroot root dir instead "make menuconfig" in output/build/linux-custom/.

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi,

I compiled the kernel with the default configs, after transferring the image to SD card and try to reboot
the kernel panicked due to missing init.

So i added the below configs and recompiled the kernel.
1. CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD=y
2. CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE="../target_fs"

However this time the kernel did not even boot up, just the raspberry logo comes up.

Please advice on how to proceed.

Thanks & Regards,
Manu

use a good kernel, from a known good image, like Weezy, log in, run:
Code: Select all
zcat /proc/config.gz > config.default

backup it first, then take config.default to your build machine ( or on the same ), put it in your linux kernel tree as .config , run make oldconfig, then edit it as you wish
