Example using vc4-fkms-v3d? OpenGLES with X11?

Sat Jun 23, 2018 3:57 am

I have spent a few hours rifling around the internet and trying to run example code from all sorts of pedigrees from the past to try to get accelerated graphics running on the Pi in X11.

It seems that historically, there had been some projects that had to do some very unusual things to get it running at all, for example x11eglrpi - ( https://github.com/kika123/x11eglrpi )

And, I can run glxgears from mesa utils, but it is much slower than should be possible with hardware acceleration - considering when I use the framebuffer OGLES stuff, I can render several million triangles per second!

All versions I've found of rpigears can't even compile in modern raspian.

What are people doing nowadays? How do you do this in 2018?

P.S. I am only trying to do this on X11? I can't find any guides on doing it with Wayland?

I got the mesa3d demos running on Gentoo64 this week,
Very easy too, It was just a matter of grabbing the source and configure/make.

Getting OpenGLES demos running is causing me issues as there is no Gentoo32 img yet.
Raspbian does not have all the dependencies installed ;)

glxgears seems to be the version that works everywhere, it seems to be the test demo now.
Rpigears was a hack of this?

Wayland seems to be dead ended? mesa3d/drm, Vulkan are developing.

What methods are you using to get millions of triangles/second?
I'm dancing on Rainbows.
Raspberries are not Apples or Oranges
