Logo display board

Wed Oct 12, 2016 12:58 pm

I have not yet setup a Pi or used one. I have looking for find a solution simply boot up and display a PNG logo file. We currently have a windows PC that has a logo as wallpaper image. This is terribly power inefficient and would like to change it to a Pi or something else.

The requirements are that it boots up with any kind of boot screen. Then it immediately launches a picture viewer to display a logo file without any prompting from the user. I plan to make a few of these to be used as logo slates in a video production.

Do you think a Pi is a good solution?

Yes the RPi can do that easily if you have HDMI/DVI monitor. If VGA then you will need a HDMI to VGA converter box.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Does the distribution matter?
Would I set it up with any distribution, then launch X with Window Manager and an image viewer?

The very newest Raspbian has Plymouth properly set-up and configured. It would be a matter of replacing
the PIXEL desktop with an imageviewer.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
