Raspberry pi 2 desktop environment

Thu Feb 12, 2015 5:50 am

Hi everyone.
I have just taken delivery of my new Raspberry PI 2 and am new to this whole thing.
That being said I am finding these devices amazing.
Just want to ask what are peoples recommendation for a desktop environment to run on a PI 2?
Some posts say some desktop environments run too slow but these all refer to the older models?
Also I want to run an rdp client on my Pi2? What is best ? RDesktop, xRDP, Othet ?
Any suggestions for a newbie to try out.
Thanks in advance
Andy

The foundation focuses on LXDE on Raspbian/Debian.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

I'm using MATE at the moment, it runs pretty decent on the RPi2.
It's a Gnome2 fork which for me feels a bit more polished than LXDE.

instructions for installing it are here: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianMate

adding sources can cause issues for new hardware, I don't know the ins and outs of it, so use at your own risk.
But IMO it works without issues.

That repository was last updated a year ago and I think it is abandoned.
