TigerVNC for Raspbian 7 (wheezy)

Tue Nov 18, 2014 12:36 am

Hello,

I have successfully compiled and packaged TigerVNC 1.3.1 under Raspbian 7 (wheezy).
libjpeg-turbo (1.3.1) and fltk (1.3.2) were backported from jessie, since they are required to compile tigervnc.
Perhaps someone else would like to use these packages, so I created a repository. The instructions are:

Great work. TigerVNC is properly Open Source and hopefully will be incorporated into Raspbian.

Hi s.deleeuw, and thanks for making this package available for us raspberries :D

Unfortunately, a problem. I've followed the above directions on a fully-updated wheezy install, but I get the following:

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~# apt-get install tigervnc
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 tigervnc : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.15) but 2.13-38+rpi2+deb7u6 is to be installed
Depends: libfontconfig1 (>= 2.11) but 2.9.0-7.1 is to be installed
Depends: libjpeg62-turbo (>= 1.3.1) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
Anything I might be doing wrong?

Looks like this repo is dead :(

I'd really like to get tigervnc working on wheezy (upgrading to Jessie will bring systemd, which I don't want) so I'm going to try to build it myself. I doubt I will get as far as properly packaging it let alone setting up a repo, but I'll document the builds here as best I can.

Hi Richard, I'm afraid I never got to a 100% working build. The crux was trying to get the Xorg module built, which involves importing the X server sources and standing on one leg holding a rubber chicken etc.

My solution, therefore, has been to use Arch. So I'm stuck with systemd, but at least I'm in the hands of a distro that's been using it longer than most. It's been ... tolerable.

It's been a while, maybe it's in wheezy-backports by now?

I installed Raspbian on RPi2 and running fine locally. I want to be able to connect locally with Manjaro linux PC in local network.

I tried tigervncviewer and it won't connect. Is there a solution from Arch based PC?

TigerVNC have released a significantly updated version - 1.7.0. This may help with RasPi implementation.
