Old Chromium Version

The Chromium version in Raspbian is 22.0.1229.94 which, I believe, was released in 2012. There have been a lot of changes in CSS and HTML since then, and I would really like to be able to use Raspbian and a recent-ish version of Chromium.

I've read several postings about the fact that the Chromium version is very outdated, but it doesn't seem like anyone is talking about actually updating the package. I don't know if it is even possible to update it, but it would be great if anyone could give me some insight into this issue.

Is this just something I could fix with a feature request? Is there even a way to do a feature request? Is there a step-by-step guide on how to update a Raspbian package? I'm willing to put in some work, but I definitely don't know much about... this stuff, generally.

I saw that one, and I (sorta) attempted it, but what I really want is what I asked in my post: is there a way to get the general repository up to date? Say I want to deploy 100 pi's. I don't want to have to download and install the old Chromium version 100 times from the repo and then alter it to the current version using this method (basically re-downloading it again) 100 times.

I feel like this is something that other users of Raspbian want, and I only see people doing these band-aid one-off solutions. I haven't seen people saying that it is impossible to update the package in the repository, but nobody seems to see it as an actual solution to this problem. If the repo was updated (or, imagine, automatically updated when a new version of Chromium came out), nobody would ever deal with this problem again.

Chromium Web Browser has been virtually abandoned on the ARM Architecture (exception being Android)

It is to heaveyweight for the Pi anyway, that is why the RPF include the HTML5 Epiphany Web Browser in Raspbian Wheezy

So will anyone update Chromium Browser, nope

Thanks for the analysis on what's going on with Chromium in regards to Raspbian. Seems like I'm riding the wrong horse

I was actually looking at Epiphany yesterday before I decided to make my first post, and I was a little disappointed by what I found. It's totally possible that Epiphany is a legitimate and good browser, but I couldn't find anything about getting it into kiosk mode (people actually suggested using Chromium instead for this purpose). Also, I couldn't find info about whether Epiphany is compliant with CSS3. Furthermore, it is not obvious to me whether Epiphany is going to be supported long-term or not.

Do you know more about Epiphany? Can you point me towards some better resources?

After looking at your referred post, looks like I should look into Minimal Kiosk Browser as well (still the question about long-term support, though). I can't find anything about CSS3 compliance, though. I would love to see something like caniuse.com for these two browsers...

In my experience even the most light weight web browser responds too slow with current multi-media websites

Maybe, but most of these "current multi-media websites" contain lots of useless crap and they are mostly terribly designed (I'm talking about efficiency, not aesthetics).

I do use it, but not for regular browsing. It's just for one website in kiosk mode, and it takes approximately 1230897234 years to load some images, so, no, it's not reasonable for general browsing (really, it takes about a minute to load the page that I am running, but once everything is loaded, the javascript that is on a timer runs reasonably). It takes more than a minute to just open up the Chromium developer tools.
