I an effort to have ssh resolve my hostname I need to install libdns. But

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libdns  libnss-mdns
returns an "Unable to locate package libdns" error.

Have I misnamed the package?

Let the pointing and laughing commence .... :)

Same problem, can't get my Pi name visible to Windows (pi connected via cable to wireless router, PC connected wireless, samba service running), though ping works both ways once I find out Pi ip-address. Being new to this world... what exactly do I do with the github link to see if the the libdns thing makes a difference? Tried pretty much everything else I could find from Google.

Did some more head scratching. Seems that I can ping my Pi ok with another PC (Win8) in my home network, also the samba share pops up nice. With my Win7 machine, ping and ssh by ip works, but no trace of the Pi with name. Any help checking my PC configuration apperciated. What's funny, running XPmode in the same PC, the Pi name does get resolved and it shows up in the XP network.
Tried so far:
-disabled W7 firewall, tried my best with the advanced firewall settings
-player around with all the LAN Manager authentication levels and session security
-checked "Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always)" (was disabled)
-uninstalled KB2536276
-sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi
-sc config mrxsmb20 start= auto
-HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters ->Smb2:0
Also, mods, please move to approriate place as needed. I can't even see what subforum this goes to when I post :?
