Sat Sep 06, 2014 2:43 pm

Hi everyone,

I just get my first Pi and starting to explore new things

So my probably noob problem is-

I use USB disk and only boot from SD card.
And want to edit config.txt on SD card using

Code: Select all

sudo nano /media/SD/config.txt
but editor open empty

but when i boot to desktop then it work till reboot

tried this

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ cd /media/SD
pi@raspberrypi /media/SD $ ls-l
total 0
pi@raspberrypi /media/SD $ cd ..
pi@raspberrypi /media $ sudo chmod 777 /media/SD/
pi@raspberrypi /media $ sudo chown pi:pi /media/SD/
pi@raspberrypi /media $ ls -l
total 8
drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Aug 27 19:41 boot
drwxrwxrwx 2 pi pi 4096 Aug 27 19:41 SD
pi@raspberrypi /media $ cd SD
pi@raspberrypi /media/SD $ ls -l
total 0
and after i boot to desktop i get this

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi /media/SD $ ls-l
total 48096
.....
-rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 1334 Aug 27 19:28 config.txt
.......
hope thats enough info

thanks for any help

I think nobody really understands your problem, because all important information is missing,

You are running Raspbian, I suppose. If that is true, did you install it directly or via NOOBS?

On a clean Raspbian installation, config.txt is available from /boot/config.txt

And what do you mean with "only using SD card for booting"? Did you move the root FS to your HD? And how did you do that?

Yes raspbian from here

I write img file to usb stick, copy all FAT files to SDcard and change in cmdline.txt root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 to root=/dev/sda2 thats all

thats why my config.txt is on SD partition and not on /boot

/boot should be a mount point of the fat SD partition.

Add "rootdelay=5" (or any other value) to cmdline.txt. How can you be sure that your HD is sda2? It's better to use something like
root=PARTUUID=.............
in cmdline.txt
