Boot need more than 10 min with new Raspbian

Sun Aug 03, 2014 11:22 am

Hi,
i started working with Rpi 1 year ago. Now, i bought a second one so i have 2:
#1 Model B (512 MB Ram), uk version, built in 14th Week of 2013
#2 Model B (512 MB Ram), uk version, built in 17th Week of 2014.
There are a little changes on the board layout (capacitors, resistors) but from the far, they looks similar.

I worked with Raspian 26_07_2013 and had no issues.
With the new Rpi #2 i wrote the new Raspbian 20_06_2014 on his new sd card, all works fine.
I cleaned up the card from #1 and wrote also the new Raspbian on this one. The Pi didn't boot.
I swapped the cards, same Problem: Pi #1 still didn't boot, both cards works perfect in Pi #2.
Then, i waited a long time and after more than 10 minutes Pi #1 boots too. But with a low screen resolution.

I tried a lot of things:
- plug in some USB-Devices,
- started with LAN and Power only,
- tried several power supplies (also a laboratory one)
- format the sd card with officially formater tool (overwrite mode)
nothing worked.
Also i compared the Bootlogs from the 2 Pis, but there was only a small difference:
At #1 there were 2 additional lines:

Code: Select all

[ 2.417326] mmc0: could read SD Configuration register (SCR) at the 2th attempt
[ 2.458332] mmc0: read SD Status register (SSR) after 2 attempts
But the sd card is ok.

Then i cleaned the card again and wrote a Raspian 07_01_2014, it works.

So i don't understand why the older one of my Pis needs more than 10 min to boot with the new Raspbian 20_06_2014, but the newer one doesn't have any problems...

I would be thankful for any help or suggestions!

most often when a system takes unusually long to boot is because its writing hundreds upon hundreds of kernel error messages to a logfile somewhere.

Hm,
but the LEDs don't show any activity in this 10 minutes, only the power led is on.
And i measured the current, the pi take only about 200mA in this time...
