Raspbian Image

Looks like the image for raspbian is 2014-01-07 is this due for an update soon as it looks like quite a few images for the other distributions are newer than that.

I am asking as quite a few of the SD cards used at the school I am helping with a computer club at are in real need of updating so if a new Raspbian is coming soon I would rather wait a few weeks and grab that, then install the current one then upgrade later.

Perhaps there could be a test version released that we or similar techie groups could get involved in, like with NOOBS,

The installer really doesn't matter much. Just do "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo rpi-update; sudo reboot" and you'll have the newest stable versions of all packages and the latest kernel. You don't need to wait for a newer installer to come out.

No problem

I will re-flash with the current image jan 14, and update from there. I just thought it would save time if there was a new image out soon.

Hi Paul,

When dealing with a large number of Raspberry Pis, it can save a lot of time to build your own image. In this manner one can apt-get upgrade, change the keyboard, language and add other software etc. before making an image to copy. (gparted to reduce the image size and ssh key removal are a good idea before cloning the image.)

Best regards,
