Could you tell me if the last remote app version (4.2) works with the latest forked-daapd version?

I tried to pair with .remote file but it didn't work...

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your answer.
I think I do the right way, I open remote app on my iphone and I write a .remote file in the shared directory including the name of my iphone and the number received by remote app.
Maybe this is because there are spaces in the name?

Spaces in the name should be fine. Try to check the log. If you don't see anything with the standard log level then try setting it to debug.

I have been reading posts and struggling for many hours now.
Not getting my iPhone or iPad paired.

The log says:
+ eth0 IPv4 C758FF4A-453A-4608-8104-D787454E7A49 _touch-remote._tcp local
= eth0 IPv4 C758FF4A-453A-4608-8104-D787454E7A49 _touch-remote._tcp local
hostname = [Adams-iPhone.local]
address = [10.0.0.158]
port = [58434]
txt = ["DvNm=Adams iPhone" "DvTy=iPhone" "RemV=10000" "RemN=Remote" "txtvers=1" "Pair=CAC53156DBA5495C"]

I create a file: /tmp/pass.remote, containing:
Adams iPhone
6368

Then I 'mv /tmp/pass.remote /var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes'

So that it looks like:
testberrypi:~daapd/Music/iTunes# ls -la /var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes
total 24
drwxrwxrwx 5 daapd staff 4096 Jun 2 16:29 .
drwxrwxrwx 3 daapd staff 4096 Jan 30 11:13 ..
drwxrwxrwx 5 daapd staff 4096 Jun 1 21:57 Album Artwork
drwxrwxrwx 3 daapd staff 4096 Jun 1 17:42 Movies
drwxrwxrwx 3 daapd staff 4096 Jun 2 16:29 Music
-rwxrwxrwx 1 daapd staff 18 Jun 2 16:22 pass.remote

My /etc/forked-daapd.conf contains:
directories = { "/var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes" }

After putting the pass.remote in the directory /var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes NOTHING happens AT ALL.
No log-entries (loglevel = debug), no errors, NO PAIRING...

I'm clueless, please HELP!

Kind regards,
Adam

I just restarted the daemon with the pass.remote file still at its place...

The logfile showed: [2014-06-02 17:00:58] remote: Adding Remote pin data: name 'Adams iPhone', pin '6368'
yet nothing happened at the iPhone side...

Edit: Just saw your update. If the file is found when you restart, but not when you add it, it would seem that the directory is a mounted dir and that you are sharing the same problem as the above posters?
----------
It seems like you are doing it the right way, so it’s difficult to help. I assume the directory is not a mounted dir? Also, which user is forked-daapd running as?

Having your music in forked-daapd’s cache and settings dir should not be the problem, but I would still recommend that you moved it somewhere else. Your music is not specific to forked-daapd, so no reason to keep it in that dir.

Some troubleshooting things you could do:
- Check the log to see if your music is being added to the database (do you see messages about files being scanned? if not, then it is probably a permission problem)
- Check the log to see if “/var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes” is added to inotify (use grep /var/cache/forked-daapd/Music/iTunes [your logfile] |grep inotify)

The library was not on a remote filesystem..
testberrypi:~daapd# pwd
/var/cache/forked-daapd
testberrypi:~daapd# df -k .
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 7631432 3591988 3684112 50% /

I just moved the iTunes data to /srv/music, as defaulted in the config-file and then restarted the daemon.

The logfile:
[2014-06-02 17:21:01] main: Forked Media Server Version 0.19gcd taking off
.
.

[2014-06-02 17:21:03] scan: Picked up 3 tags with generic md_map, 6 tags total

txt = ["DvNm=Adams iPhone" "DvTy=iPhone" "RemV=10000" "RemN=Remote" "txtvers=1" "Pair=ED052D17A744C202"]

About inotify:
[2014-06-02 17:21:02] db: Running query 'DELETE FROM inotify;'
[2014-06-02 17:21:02] db: Running query 'INSERT INTO inotify (wd, cookie, path) VALUES (1, 0, '/srv/music');'

.
2014-06-02 17:21:03] db: Running query 'INSERT INTO inotify (wd, cookie, path) VALUES (6, 0, '/srv/music/iTunes/Music/The Cats');'

One more answer:
I did the '/etc/init.d/forked-daapd restart' as user root

Well, here's the problem, you're using the wrong version!

Btw please update your post so it doesn't have the entire log file. No reason to fill this thread with too much needless info.

Hmmm... I just installed it, wonder where I went wrong...

I added: deb http://www.gyfgafguf.dk/raspbian wheezy-backports/armhf/ and
deb http://www.gyfgafguf.dk/raspbian wheezy/armhf/ to my /etc/apt/sources.list

and did an: aptitude -y install forked-daapd

I'm not familiar with aptitude, but with apt-get you would need to do an apt-get update before installing. Otherwise it will install the version from Wheezy that you got. That version is ancient and has lots of bugs. Also, you shouldn't add both lines (I recommend wheezy-backports), but that is not the reason it went wrong.

Wow... Must have found an install-procedure somewhere that was not the most perfect one.

Thanks!

Will try to do a reinstall sometime later this week.

I've made another update to forked-daapd which is now at version 20.0.32. There are just a few modifications:
- XBMC fix (@bosel and @PEPITO82)
- some queue editing improvements (credit @chme)
- improvements for Seafile (@nasty_vibrations)

These are the "visible" changes. Under the hood there are, however, some major changes. I hope these haven't broken anything, but if anyone finds something that has stopped working please let me know.

It's working like a charm so far! You are great!
Thanks for all the work you are putting into it.

Just two things:
- Shuffle mode doesn't work for me. Is that normal?
- Is it possible to have two iphones control the library?

Yes, you can add as many Remotes as you want.

Shuffle should work, I just tested, and it seems ok. Does it never work for you, or only under certain circumstances?

I have two iPhones and two iPads set as remotes as well as one laptop using TunesRemote SE. I switch between remotes all the time depending on what I am doing.

Hi All,

I am trying to register my forked-daapd library on my iphone or ipad following the directions posted and I get the following error:
  • remote: Read Remote pairing data (name 'iphone', pin '4813') from /media/music/Artists/aaaa.remote
remote: Pairing succeeded with Remote 'iphone' (id XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX), GUID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    db: Waiting for database unlock
db: Pairing GUID XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX not found
daap: Login attempt with invalid pairing-guid
On the iphone/ipad side Remote (version 4.2) the application initially resisters the library but after a few seconds I get the following message in both devices: This remote has been unregistered from library. I have tried it many times and get the same error. Is anybody experiencing similar problems?

I am running latest forked-daapd (20.0.32.git30aa934-2).

Any ideas?

Possibly a permissions problem. The user forked-daapd is running under may not have access to a database. Is your forked-daapd.conf file set to use root user or another user? (Daapd, for example)

Yes, I use Spotify. Where do your playlists show up with no contents? They will always show up empty in iTunes, because Spotify items will not play through iTunes (which also wouldn't be very useful). In Remote you should, however, see your playlist items and be able to play them. If that doesn't work you've got to dig into the log file.

Hi,

I had some trouble when moving from my test-library to my complete music library.

After some studying of the log-files I discovered that forked-daapd had a problem with a particular artist/album after which it stopped working and never reached the end of the scan.
It was "Sigur Rós" and the album titles "Ágætis Byrjun". When I left this folder (the complete Sigur Ros folder) out, it worked!

Is there some problem with the writing? I guess so, even I don't know how to pronounce it ;)

Shuffle is working for me now, too.

Thanks

The play
Lists show up under playlists
The spotify lists has a s indication
I think it is not just spotify but all playlist having issues
When you say they will not play through itunes what does that mean - I was hoping to send stream to an airplay speaker. I do not expect them to show up in itunes per-say

It could be a strange character issue - I may have some of that in my library
All list seem to be there - they are just empty

@nasty_vibrations: I tried adding a file with those names in the tag, and it worked ok. But character encodings can be tricky to test, I probably just didn't match your file tags properly. If you have a file you know will break forked-daapd please PM me with a link, then I can look into it.

@Panda88: I'm still unsure where you are not seeing the playlist items - is it in iTunes or in Remote? Are all playlists empty?

It is using the remote (both on iPad (apple remote ) and on win phone)
I see this in the log
[2014-06-07 20:21:31] spotify: Login to Spotify succeeded. Reloading playlists.
[2014-06-07 20:21:36] daap: Could not start query

[2014-06-07 20:22:16] daap: Could not start query
[2014-06-07 20:22:20] scan: Scanned 400 files...

Also I did change the cache location for spotify, but it seems to be commented out in the first place - do I need to uncomment these?
from conf file
Spotify settings (only have effect if Spotify enabled - see README/INSTALL)

If you want to change the settings, you will need to uncomment them. If they are commented out, forked-daapd will use the default values.

Your log file is a bit strange. There are two instances of "Login to Spotify succeeded", there should be only one. I'm also not sure why you get "Could not start query" - are you trying to connect from Remote while it is scanning? A thing you might try: Set "directories" in the config to some empty dir, and then restart forked-daapd. Do the Spotify playlists now show up? Try waiting 5-10 minutes before connecting with Remote.

Return to “Raspberry Pi OS”
