I hope that my Raspberry Pi 2 comes out soon so that I can test out your browser performance with that too ;)

I am running a set of results screens consisting of a raspberry pi, 32" tv in portrate mode and a wifi dongle. The screen displays a scrolling webpage via kweb in kiosk mode. I intend to have no keyboard attached. Following the kweb setup instructions the unit auto starts and displays well.
Every now and again i get a blank screen with the "unable to load page message", with a keyboard attached an alt "r" sets the screen running again. Is there any way of detecting the blank screen and automatically sending a alt"r" to the unit.

Greetings

I'm also trying to use autoplay in a private kiosk app - having downloaded the source tarball I can find no reference to this html5 property and hence to enable it. Is it hidden in the binary somehow?

Thanks

No. You should try to find the reason why the page cannot be accessed and fix it.

Yes it's hard compiled into the binary. I can send you a binary of kweb3 with autoplay enabled. Send me a PM with your email address.

Hello,

First of all thank you for this browser. I think this is exactly what I am looking for.
Now I have following error message during install :
Error during install: 'Failed to fetch http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/rasp ... _armhf.deb 404 Not Found
'cp: cannot stat `/usr/local/share/kweb/ktop': No such file or directory

Maybe I missed something. Can you help please?

Thanks. I have WiFi_Check running in cron andit will reestablish a wifi link ( i can ssh via Wifi) but the browser wont refresh without manual intervention. If i have a wifi network connection what else should i be looking for? Is the ."unable to load page message" generated within the browser and what triggers it?

Mrtee
It's triggered withing the webkit engine if the URL cannot be loaded (usually a network problem).

You could send a refresh message from a script using xdotool.
xdotool key alt+r

I tested the update yesterday.

It works great. Either OMXplayer update or your browser has made the OMXPlayerGUI much more stable. I can now change the size of the gui much more smoothly without those jumps that sometimes crash OMXPlayerGUI.

I really wish Raspberry Pi Foundation would utilize your browser as the default it really is the most powerful and media center like browser on the Pi. All they would have to do is reskin the icons and interface a bit and it will be perfect.

Keep up the good work.

PS is there a way to make the Kweb GUI smaller on the top without having to hide it?

Set the small icons option and the icons only option (or use text buttons only).
You can also select another icon set using lxappearance. I've used only system icons. You can download additional icon themes from the Raspbian repository.
The smooth moving and resizing of the video window without breaks has been accomplished by the new omxplayer version (highly recommended!). I've just modified some small things in omxplayerGUI to make better use of it.

No, but disabling Javascript, where applicable, removes a lot of ads.

Run a local ad-blocking squid3 proxy and route your HTML traffic through that.

First, I must say, I'm fairly impressed with this piece of software, really made my life easier with omxplayerGUI :)

But I have a teeny problem:
Now, in Epiphany, when I go to youtube.com, all the video titles and button names are bold. :?

Any way to revert this change?

Dougie, do you know if that performs better than just using a huge hosts file?

EDIT: Thanks Dougie, that is a good point.

Sorry I don't I'm running firefox/chrome with an ad-blocker plugin on my Windows browsers. I don't use my Raspberries for web surfing.

Big hosts file isn't optimised for read, to find the 100,000th record you have to read 99,999 earlier records. With a proxy it's more likely to use a properly indexed database to reduce seek time.

kweb introduces no change that can affect epiphany in any way. Both kweb3 and epiphany use the same webkit and javascript engine.

Run
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
If you haven't updated for many months, also run
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.
Then try installing kweb again.

Best adblock for low performance devices is editing host file. Puppy linux like lightweight distros have internal solutions for this. They have automated host file building. This is universal solution.

Don't use lot question like "why not?" This is raspberrryyyyy! (not spartaaa. if u need sparta go and buy x86) lol
I cant using enough English language. My writings can be wrong grammer.$
