Killing the GUI when SSHing into the Pi?

Wed Apr 10, 2013 4:47 am

I've setup the Pi in my house, but I have no extra screen and currently haven't installed any VNC tools.

So my question is, how do I kill the GUI from terminal when I've rebooted the Pi? This is something I want to do manually each time I reboot, instead of writing a script or permantly disabling anything. This is because, if I ever need to pop a HDMI cable back it, I want to just reboot and everything works.

Why don't you disable starting into the GUI entirely (sudo raspi-config) ?
Typing startx while connected to a monitor shouldn't be too difficult.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Hah, yes, that should do it. Why didn't I think of that? Ah well, all fixed now, thank you!
