Huawei E173S woes

Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:04 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to get a Huawei E173s 3G dongle working under Raspbian but all it causes is pain :(. Vendor 12d1 product 1c0b.

So far I've narrowed the issue down to usb_modeswitch and possibly broken udev rules. My initial problem was that if I unplugged it and then plugged it back in it wouldn't switch into modem and would still say modem off in lsusb. I can now change it at will with "usb_modeswitch -I -c /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/12d1\:1c0b -v 12d1 -p 1c0b" but won't automatically via udev. Other dongles are fine.

Has anyone had similar issues and been able to resolve them?

Thanks

Maybe try SAKIS3G, I have had more luck with that, it is listed in this basic blog: http://debianarmpi.blogspot.co.uk

sakis3g works beautifully once it's switched but I guess the sakis script doesn't include the required I command to do the switch.

I can even get it to switch to modem mode :( Here is what I did so far:

1.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install usb_modeswitch
2.

Code: Select all

lsusb | grep Huawei
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 12d1:1c0b Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E173s 3G broadband stick (modem off)

3.

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:1c0b

# Huawei E173s-2 Orange UK

DefaultVendor= 0x12d1
DefaultProduct= 0x1c0b

4.

Code: Select all

sudo nano /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules
####################################################
# Huawei E173s-2 Orange UK
ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1c0b", RUN+="usb_modeswitch '%b/%k'"

5.

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1c05
6.

sudo usb_modeswitch -I -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1\:1c0b -v 12d1 -p 1c0b

I tried exactly as marcelp1 did in this post and my Huawei E173s did modeswitch.

Return to “Raspbian”
