Install fresh wheezy or upgrade?

Hi,
is there a difference between the current 2013-02-09 wheezy and a december wheezy that's been dist-upgraded?
Should I take the effort and install everything freshly?

Providing the Kernel now states 3.6.xx it should be the same as the current release.
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get autoremove
sync
reboot

Doing an "rpi-update" seems to give me something even beyond what was mentioned above.
What does an "rpi-update" give me above and beyond what "apt-get dist-upgrade" does? Thanks

I believe it pulls in the latest kernel and packages released ie bleeding edge:
