Manage to patch up libprojectm to compile with OpenGL ES 2.0 so going to test it later :D

I just started working on howtopi.org and compiling install guide(s) with copy/paste fields in case you do not want to type all the commands.

Thanks guys,

I will answer my pm's at some point today :) I've managed to port across projectm to gles using glew-es. Was easy really just needed to add 'glRectd' to the headed which draws a rectangle. I will be testing later today. Also make a start on fishBMC. But a little more work is needed. I will try and get some sort of test package out today then move my work over to my github.

Sorry guy's but your going to have to wait a bit longer for projectm for raspbian. Everything compiles and runs but crashes XBMC's gui. I'll have to create a debug version of xbmc and take a look at whats going on.

But for now the XBMC 13.0-alpha .deb is available and working ;) Same link as always.

Please let me know how you get on so I can make any final changes before I move over to to other projects.

@anyone running this version of XBMC

Airplay doesn't seem to work? Am I the only one having this problem?

Partially fixed it by installing AirPlay support outside XBMC but with XBMC running I get a lot of AirPlay distortion/crashes. Hope my new USB soundcard arrives this week.

@charliesroot: I used your tutorial. I found 2 errors:
1.
"Install these files one by one:
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i libcec_2.0.0-1_armhf.deb
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i taglib_20130122-1_armhf.deb
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i xbmc_12.0-rc3-5-1_armhf.deb"

The name of the last file is xbmc_12.0rc3-5-1_armhf.deb, not xbmc_12.0-rc3-5-1_armhf.deb.
With the right name it worked fine.

2.
After "cd /usr/lib/ && sudo ln -s libtag.so.1.12.0 libtag.so.1" I rebooted the RPi and tried to start xbmc from the terminal without starting the desktop.
"setterm -cursor off ; clear ; xbmc --standalone --no-test && setterm -cursor on"

Result: /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin: symbol bootup error: /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin: undefined symbol: vc_tv_display_state

Sorry about the typo with error 1. I've updated the website.

About error 2:
Did the firmware update finish without errors? Please rerun "sudo rpi-update" and after a reboot check your firmware with "/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd version". Results should look something like this:

Feb 3 2013 18:50:46
Copyright (c) 2012 Broadcom
version 366977 (release)

You can safely overclock your Pi to get some more power. My config.txt settings are:

boot_delay=4
initial_turbo=45
arm_freq_min=700
arm_freq=950
core_freq_min=250
core_freq=325
gpu_freq_min=250
gpu_freq=325
sdram_freq_min=400
sdram_freq=400
over_voltage=4

For some reason I can't overclock the sdram freq. Think it's a SD-card issue. The first 2 lines help prevent SD-card corruption (so I've read). It also prevents boot errors when running Raspian from an USB harddrive (like I do).

OK, my firmware was old. Now it works.

It was my fault. I missed the 2nd line of of the firmware update of your tutorial.

It seems to be slower than xbian. Its still useable and the overclocking is not yet optimized. I am running the RPi at the "Modest"-overclocking with 800 MHz. I will overclock it more when I backuped my SD-card.

Hi,
Could you please post if the USB soundcard works using Pulseaudio under any of this two XBMC builds and playing something like an H.264 video after your new soundcard arrives?
Thank you.

I've tried both Xbian and the XBMC version from this thread (on the same 256Mb Pi with the same SD card) and I found that raspian with XBMC, combined with my overclock settings, I get an overall faster response.

But yor miles may vary.

Xbmc from the supplied .deb doesn't use the correct resolution for my display, I can only see a small part of the xbmc screen. The correct resolution for my display is [email protected] progressive, which is a DMT mode. Xbmc seems to work for CEA modes only:

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ tvservice -s
state 0x120016 [DVI  RGB full 16:10], 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, progressive
[email protected] ~ $ tvservice -m CEA
tvservice-client: No supported modes returned for group CEA in [vc_tv_hdmi_get_supported_modes_new]
Group CEA has 0 modes:
[email protected] ~ $ tvservice -m DMT
Group DMT has 20 modes:
           mode 4: 640x480 @ 60Hz 4:3, clock:25MHz progressive
           mode 5: 640x480 @ 72Hz 4:3, clock:31MHz progressive
           mode 6: 640x480 @ 75Hz 4:3, clock:31MHz progressive
           mode 8: 800x600 @ 56Hz 4:3, clock:36MHz progressive
           mode 9: 800x600 @ 60Hz 4:3, clock:40MHz progressive
           mode 10: 800x600 @ 72Hz 4:3, clock:50MHz progressive
           mode 11: 800x600 @ 75Hz 4:3, clock:49MHz progressive
           mode 16: 1024x768 @ 60Hz 4:3, clock:65MHz progressive

           mode 18: 1024x768 @ 75Hz 4:3, clock:78MHz progressive
           mode 21: 1152x864 @ 75Hz 4:3, clock:108MHz progressive
           mode 28: 1280x800 @ 60Hz 16:10, clock:83MHz progressive

           mode 48: 1440x900 @ 75Hz 16:10, clock:136MHz progressive
           mode 51: 1600x1200 @ 60Hz 4:3, clock:162MHz progressive
           mode 58: 1680x1050 @ 60Hz 16:10, clock:146MHz progressive

[email protected] ~ $ xbmc --standalone --no-test

Is there a way to make xbmc use mode [email protected] progressive?

I haven't had a problem this end. There was lots of commits pushed after I compiled that version. I wanted to let things settle down after the version change before I posted another version. I've just uploaded my latest version I have on my media center. Let me know if this fixes your issues.

It's the same with all of your versions (12.0rc3-5-1, 13.0-alpha-1, 13.0-git-07-02-2013-1), xbmc doesn't detect the correct resolution, only a part of the xbmc screen is visible. Xbmc keeps complaining:

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ xbmc --standalone --no-test
tvservice-client: No supported modes returned for group CEA in [vc_tv_hdmi_get_supported_modes_new]
[email protected] ~ $
Your xbmc doesn't seem to be able to use DMT modes. Neither Raspbmc, Xbian, nor my self-compiled version of xbmc have any problems with my display. Strange.

@everyone

I'm still struckling with Airplay. Altought you can enable AirPlay in XBMC the AirPlay icon doesn't show in iTunes. I've installed Shairport from http://sourceforge.net/projects/selfpro ... _armhf.deb and the Airplay icon shows in iTunes (not on my iPhone) but I can't select XBMC (or the Pi) as speakers.

On my test Pi I installed and compiled a shairport version (the hendrikw82 version from the git) and that version is running as a seperate service outside XBMC. AirPlay works, even on my iPhone with iOS v6.

With that service running and XBMC (with or without Airplay support) I get a lot of distortion, dropouts and hangs.

I would like to use AirPlay from within XBMC and any tips on how to resolve this are welcome.

I've not had a problem with airplay although I don't use ITunes ? All I have installed are the stock packages. Can you post a link to what your using ?

Anyway I've updated to the latest git and included the resolution fix.

Enjoy.

Am going to check out OpenElec (check if that supports AirPlay in combination with iTunes or iOS6) and if so "hack it" into my current setup.

ehhm, no. :oops: I followed the steps from page one of this thread. I allready had updated the firmware and raspbian. I also had taglib-1.7 from raspbian repository installed prior. I guess that could be the reason, but I don't know all to much about taglib to be sure. Debians (or better said Raspbians) Taglib is installed in a different place than the one from this thread. So I thought they could be both be installed ...

Setting this up now as it's exactly the goal I wanted for the pi, tried on my 2gb SD, but it filled it up during the pre-requisite apt-get steps. Now I'm using an 8gb SD and waiting for the upgrade step to complete.

I have a question though about the libdvdcss portion. I see a similar package hosted elsewhere and was wondering about it's compatibility or if it's needed: libdvdcss-dev_1.2.12-dmo2_armhf.deb

I guess from the name it's only needed for DVD and perhaps there was some licensing issue so if that's the case I'm ok with this portion being edited out, but I was curious as it was mentioned in earlier posts, but was removed later.
