Freezing Raspberry Weezy 18.12.2012

Tue Dec 18, 2012 12:45 pm

The PI is freezing all the Time with the following error message.

raspberrypi kernel: [17691.449987] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to write HW_CFG_LRST_ bit in HW_CFG register, ret = -110
raspberrypi kernel: [17697.450066] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: Failed to write register index 0x00000014

It is happen in all Images since the beginning. And happen only when you connect something on the USB Port with FTDI USB Serial Device converter FT232RL

The PI is running some Hours or some minutes all the time with the same error and then it freezes.

This is realy annoying and makes me frustrated.

WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED???

This is a well known problem with the RaspberryPi USB implementation and can happen with all kinds of USB devices, not only USB-serial converters. Look in the "Troubleshooting"-Forum, there are many threads about this issue. One volunteer is working on a fix, but progress is slow due to the very complex nature of the problem.

Threads to follow are USB redux and USB/serial converters very broken on Pi, plus, of course, the infamous, but now closed "Elephant" thread.
