I had already installed the 1.12.2 version rpiMike made. I thought that was the latest version for the Pi 4. And whenever I open the form on this one where I change my username to normal I see no text. Is there any workaround for this? Thanks.
I had that problem when I was using the incorrect launcher. The new launcher shows a white screen, the older launcher works.

That's the launcher from my script.

This is great - works perfectly! Is there a way to update for version 1.15.2? Thank you!

This is fantastic! I ran into two small problems that were easily solved:

  1. The launcher was getting stuck while trying to launch vanilla Minecraft, so the Optifine installer later refused to run because the profile hadn't been initialised yet. The stack trace matched this upstream bug report. One of the comments suggested to download this version of the Minecraft launcher, so I did that, then used

    Code: Select all

    mv launcher.jar Minecraft.jar
to replace the existing Minecraft.jar downloaded by the script.
  2. The client was then able to start up, host a local game, and join a 1.14.4 game running on my laptop. However, it was crashing after a minute or two with an error like:

    Code: Select all

mmap of bo 706 ..... failed
This looked like the JVM was trying to grow the heap and failed to allocate more memory. I was a bit surprised how much of the 4 GB on the RPi4 is taken up with just running the desktop environment and a terminal. Anyway, changing the run script to use

    Code: Select all

    -Xmx1500m
    instead of

    Code: Select all

    -Xmx2g
seems to have done the trick.

Thankyou sooooooo much!!!!! :) Worked perfectly for this Pi noob. Super impressed at your attention to detail - and the "select all" for copy paste was just super awesome.

How to setup Full Minecraft 1.14.4 (with Optifine) on Raspberry Pi4 (using Raspbian Buster)
....

Thank you for wonderful guide. My son is using MC on Pi 4 (based on this guide) for few months now.
I've just bought new version of Pi4 (8GB) - I'm going to upgrade my sons desktop Pi4 to 8GB version.

Is there a some additional configuration steps / changes to force MC to use more memory (full 8GB)?

Regards,
M

Using the stock Raspbian/Raspberry Pi OS Buster 32-bit limits any individual process to 3GB, but all 8GB can be used by multiple processes. In order for a process to use more than that you'd need a 64-bit OS.

For Minecraft Java Edition with 32-bit Raspbian you are limited to allocating 3GB to the Java heap, but the game itself and Java can use other memory outside of that. How much, and how efficiently it uses that is something I don't know.

In general I have found that the Pi is not very good as a client for playing Minecraft (although it can make a pretty good server). I mean, sure you can do it, with severe restrictions, and even then it doesn't run great.

There are some 64-bit operating systems for the Pi4 now, including a beta of Raspberry Pi OS, but I believe that doesn't have GPU support yet (not sure if others do either). There was a thread here on the forums about running Minecraft with Sakaki's 64-bit Gentoo build. Might want to look for that and give it a whirl.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thank you for answer. It clarified situation.

There is also possibility to allocate more RAM to gpu.
I've tried to change gpu_mem from 256 to 512 (in /boot/config.txt) but.. I don't see any visible improvements...

Any thoughts related to GPU memory allocation?

Greetings, M

Setting GPU memory higher than 256 is pointless, due to the way the Pi4 GPU works.

RasPiOS64 beta does have GPU support, Minecraft Java does run on it.

Don’t think so.

Return to “Raspberry Pi OS”
