Hi first off thanks for this.

Only issue I have is watching 1080i content, from a TVHeadend server...it plays for 2-5 seconds then the picture just freezes and I have to press stop to return to the menu.
Has anyone experienced this or know of a fix?
Happy to provide logs if needed.
Cheers.
Yes, please post your Kodi debug log: http://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file
Sure buddy, thanks for taking a look.
https://pastebin.com/kJaRH1La
One thing to note is that the issue only appears when trying to watch live tv channels, the recordings from these channels (exactly the same format, untouched, 1080i x264 .ts files) play perfectly with no issues.

I just tested 1080i TV streams, not from tvheadend but from mumudvb (but that shouldn't matter). They play fine and never break.
Check your GPU memory settings.
Thanks for the tip, but ive checked that and it's set to 320.

I've taken the HTS pvr add-on out of the equation by loading the channels all into a .m3u file, with exactly the same results.

I should point out that all channels play perfectly on a Vero4k+ running Kodi 18.5 and macOS running Kodi 18.5, using both the pvr.hts add-on, and the .m3u file.

What version of tvheadend are you using? I've had some issues with the 4.2 that is on the raspian repo, so I moved to Docker (linuxserver/tvheadend). It's the latest 4.3 and is working fine with an Xbox tv tuner.

Thanks for the suggestion, im running 4.2.8, but I don't really want to pursue that route until I know its absolutely necessary, considering I have no problems with a Vero4k+ and macOS using this version 4.2.8.

Edit:
Just to clear this up ive upgraded my TVHeadend server to 4.3 and the issue is still there, no difference.
Thanks anyway...it was worth a shot.

It seems this build of Kodi doesn't work with the 64-bit kernel. Is this a known "issue"? I put that in inverted commas, since the 64-bit kernel is just a beta.
I am not sure if it is supposed to work with the 64-bit kernel, I suppose not. There is some hardware stuff on the Pi that is 32 bit only (I don't remember what exactly now) and maybe that is used by Kodi. I believe that only Kodi 19 will work, when the ffmpeg + v4l2 stuff is done. But ask here, they know better: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 9&t=250730

I don't know whether the problem is Kodi or the kernel - Kodi crashes at startup after displaying its bootsplash. I can provide logs if you like? I will also mention it on the 64-bit kernel thread.

No need to provide logs here, I already tested and I can confirm that it does not work. The error is the "could not initialize vc shared memory service". This could indicate that there was a permissions issue but it is not that because if you start Kodi as root it gives the same error. I believe it is something to do with what I said on my previous comment, I don't know what to do to fix it or even if it is possible to fix it like it is now.

If you take a look on the 64 bit kernel thread, on the first post they say "vcsm driver doesn't work with 64-bit (only the cma version) which will break software decode with kodi". Don't know what they exactly mean by that but CMA doesn't work also for me. Provide your Kodi log and terminal output on that thread, they may be able to help.

Update: If you update kernel/firmware with rpi-update, Kodi with the 64 bit kernel works. But somethings might not work, more fixes may be needed in kernel/firmware and Kodi source code.

Hi,
Can you take a look at this topic in fórum Librelec, this issue does on both, Libreelec and under Raspberry OS.

I will take a look at it on Monday, looks like it does only apply if you turn "Enable change refresh rate" on right? But even if I confirm the issue, I am afraid I can't do much to fix it. I only compile/package Kodi for Raspbian to work on all RPi version and make some small Raspbian specific fixes, I am not a Kodi dev. If it is a bug that occurs on Raspbian and Librelec, it is better to repor it on Kodi oficial forum.

Thanks - that is Kodi now working for me :D

One minor issue I noticed when running both with 32 and 64-bit kernels, is after playing a video from a samba share within Kodi, then exiting backk to the command line I have warnings like this:

Code: Select all

mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
mkdir failed on directory /var/cache/samba: Permission denied
Which is probably not surprising as I'm running Kodi under the 'pi' user, and /var/cache/samba doesn't exist.

I don't know what that messages mean, I never saw them on mine, only that they are related to the graphics stack drivers and display.
You can return to stable kernel/firmware by reinstalling the following packages:
libraspberrypi-bin
libraspberrypi-dev
libraspberrypi-doc
libraspberrypi0
raspberrypi-bootloader
raspberrypi-kernel

Guys, I am getting Kodi freezed on exit like 80 percent of the time for last 14 days. The crashlog is not generated and I am forcing the Raspberry PI 4 to reboot so I don't need to unplug cable. Anyway it take quite a long time for reboot to kill Kodi and reboot. Any guide how to get the log or any other ideas what is going on please?

Hi folks. New member here.
Been a RPi2 for some years now, and have been using the RPi4-4 for a few months. Been having an issue with Kodi on Buster, and was hoping someone could point me to a fix/solution.

I did a "fresh" install of Buster last week via Noobs, and installed a few apps in Buster (LibreOffice, Gimp, Kodi). I haven't changed any of the default settings of Kodi. Playback of H264 video works like a charm, but anytime I try to play a HEVC(SD; haven't tried HD) file, Kodi crashes and returns me to Buster's desktop. This has happened multiple times so far.

Any suggestions?

Cheers
(Apologies if this issue has been answered elsewhere)
Post your Kodi debug log after reproducing the problem:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file
Apologies for not posting any logs yet. I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything specific to my build/pi, so I started from scratch and:
-updated the Raspberry Pi firmware to 2.4.1(latest as of 7 days ago?)
-Installed Raspbian(within the past 7 days)
-installed Kodi using apt (version 18.4?)

I tested playback from an external USB harddrive. H264(sd and hd) videos play fine. HEVC(any resolution) causes the screen to go blank momentarily, Kodi crashed and I'm back at the Raspbian desktop.

Off a different SD card, with LibreElec(Kodi 18.5?), playback of HEVC(any resolution) from an external USB drive is just fine, and it appears to be using hardware decoding(judging by the processor/memory activity monitor).

Cheers

Note*:I havent tried playing HEVC files in VLC on Raspbian.

Hi there people! I updated my raspberry pi 3 to buster yesterday.
Now, I am trying to install the latest version of pvr-teleboy, but it looks the version available is still 18.0.25 from a year ago which is not functional any more. Version 18.1.6 is out there and availbe for ubuntu but not for raspbian yet. Are there any plans to update this or should I switch to ubuntu mate xenial for example?
thanks for your time!
