Re: The much heralded "Buster"- When?

Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:06 am

I wanted to try Buster, so I modified a Raspbian (fully updated to Stretch 9.9 Kernel 4.19.42-v7+), on a Pi3A+, replaced "stretch" by "buster" in /etc/apt/sources.list and performed a update/upgrade.

This seemed to work, although there were a number of on-screen message such as

Code: Select all

apt (1.8.0~alpha3) unstable; urgency=medium

The PATH for running dpkg is now configured by the option DPkg::Path,
and defaults to "/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin". Previous behaviour of
not changing PATH may be restored by setting the option to an empty string.

Support for /etc/apt/auth.conf.d/ has been added, see apt_auth.conf(5).
On re-boot I ended in emergency mode, but "Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked" and I end up in a loop reloading system manager configuration.

There seem to be number of people running Buster, what process did they follow?

Yes Buster has arrived:

Fresh install on my RPi 2B v1.1, seems to be running OK with no noticeable slow downs compared to Stretch.

Obviously ran a full package upgrade and installed needed software.

Great to have software upgrade to latest version.

firefox-esr version 60.7.0 appears to be working !

Ooh! This is good news. It's a much lighter browser than Chromium, and makes great use of multiple cores.

I do not see much difference under limited testing.

Though was pleasantly surprised that system-config-printer auto installed my HP Wireless Printer, like it does in Xubuntu.

So looking forward to SL's Buster Blog....
