If you had provided a link or something so we could have an idea of that Stacer are, and exactly what you downloaded, we might be able to help.

I got the .deb file directly from the ppa.

I chose the one for Ubuntu Disco Dingo.

I should add that I downloaded the .deb file to my Pi and installed it using Gdebi.

Researching Stacer would suggest it is NOT for ARMHF Linux:

Should I compile from source tarball then?

You could try a debuild from a copy of the git repository on the Pi, to make a proper deb. You would also need the orig.tar file in the parent directory.

Roughly:
sudo apt-get install build-essential devscripts git
wget ...orig.tar.xz
git clone ...
cd ...
debuild

Note that the Architecture field in debian/control should be "any" instead of "all".

I'm going to have to retract that recommendation. There are many problems with the debian directory configuration for that project.
