Different operating systems

If I was running Raspbian Wheezy on a micro SD card on my raspberry pi and I bought a new micro SD card and installed the newest version of Raspbian on it, could I use both micro SD cards on one Raspberry PI

Yes, you can use a new card with the latest OS, and another card with an older operating system, just be sure to perform a proper shutdown when switching between them.
You can't just yank the card out while the system is still running.

Also, if you start to go that route, you might want a small box, with space to write a word or two, or something else to hold the spare microSD cards when not in use. You can then more easily have otherwise incompatible projects on the same hardware.

Myself, I use a card holder with labeled slots and used a paint pen to number the cards. I didn't expect that it would be so nice but I have to say that it is a noticable big improvement over having a tiny container of loose microSD cards, keeping the cards easily identifiable as well as tidily arranged saves both time and stress.
