Hello,
Is it possible the "Welcome to Raspberry Pi" setup wizard window at the system start?

I configure raspberry through SSH, and I don't want to plug mouse & keyboard every time, when I deploy new rPI. I've to set all settings (locale, keyboard settings, wifi region etc.) through raspi-config, but the window is still displaying.

I've asked Simon to do this before. He wouldn't agree to it.

It's 100% illogical to ask for WiFi and ssh things when WiFi & ssh are already configured - but we have to live with it.

Found the solution.
I took this filewatcher script from super : https://superuser.com/a/959040
I rewrote it a bit to look like this : https://gist.github.com/jtommi/3dcd9781 ... 7f2063241d

With this filewatcher I found that when you press Done on the last step, it deletes a file.
That file is /etc/xdg/autostart/piwiz.desktop
So if you want to get rid of it :

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/xdg/autostart/piwiz.desktop
sudo reboot now
If you want to immediately kill it without reboot :

Code: Select all

sudo kill $(ps aux | grep '[p]iwiz' | awk '{print $2}')

Is there a way to manually launch this program at a later date in case you accidentally clicked it away?

Hi,

I had the same problem, keeping this thing opening again at each start despite it's already configured is really frustrating. Why not just add a checkbox "do not show again" ?
Once checked, and clicked on "Cancel", a message saying "you can manually run this tool by typing sudo piwiz in a terminal." before closing the app.

This information also helped me re-enable the piwiz configuration wizard after I clicked the "Cancel" button which also removes the wizard from the startup desktop permanently. -- (I use the 2019-07-10 image of Raspbian.)

If you want to restore the piwiz.desktop startup file from a newly flashed sd card in a USB card reader to your not-yet-configured Pi startup screen, the steps in terminal go like this:

Code: Select all

cd /media/pi/rootfs/etc/xdg/autostart
This changes the current directory to the location of piwiz.desktop in a NEWly flashed SD card in a USB port.

Code: Select all

sudo cp piwiz.desktop /etc/xdg/autostart/piwiz.desktop
This command copies the piwiz.desktop file from new external card to the internal card needing the piwiz start-up configuration window again.

You can shutdown or reboot the Pi as many times as you want and the piwiz wizard window will continue to appear until you complete the configuration process and press the "Done" button,
Or until you press the "Cancel" button
Or until you manually remove the piwiz.desktop file with a terminal command.

Here is a screen capture of a file manager folder in a newly flashed Raspbian SD card , viewing the directory of a second SD card in a USB port. The original piwiz.desktop file is beautifully adorned with the Raspberry Pi icon. Nice!
