Raspbian-installation interchangeable between Pi 2 and Pi 3

Hello,

I have Raspbian (stretch) up and running on a Pi 2 with basically just kodi.

Would it do any harm, to put the sd-card into a Pi 3 and put it back into the Pi 2 again? Could this corrupt the system or even not work?

Thanks, selch

As long as it's fully updated/upgraded should be fine (current versions for the "newest Pi" are expected to be backwards compatible with older Pi's, but, especially just after a "new Pi" has become available, versions released before then usually need to be updated/upgraded to work in said "new Pi")

It wouldn't hurt to first make an image backup of your microSD card, just in case something "unexpected" happens

Once you've backed up your microSD card, then after following FTrevorGowen's instructions, you may plug the microSD card from RPi2B to RPi3B

If interchangeability between RPi2B and RPi3B has been successful, its wise to make another image backup of your "successful" microSD card.
