VLC and accelerated drivers

Tue Jun 05, 2018 10:01 am

Why doesnt the Pi repos have an accelerated (omxil) enabled driver?

I have seen this thread: viewtopic.php?t=195221
However the responses would seem to indicate a varied experience from somewhere between perfect right first time, and the compilation just failing miserably all over the place to the point one gives up. I fell into the latter. I actually am a programmer in C#/Windows/.Net so I can understand the error messages albeit I dont understand the linux ./configure and make system or the filesystem in general - so errors from those related warnings are smoke and mirrors to me.

Has anyone managed to succeffuly compile acclerated VLC on Stretch and if so, what was the procedure from fresh install of Stretch - and can it be done with the Stretch Lite image ??

I've done it dozens of times on Wheezy, Jessie and Stretch. If you follow the tutorial exactly, it should work.

And no, I don't recommend starting with Stretch light. The full VLC package depends on a lot of GUI stuff.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Return to “Raspbian”
